So King George and NYY might bid sayanora, Senor Torre, hm? What do you think of that?

I know nothing about Torre's in-game management style, and I do know that he's very good in clubhouse, yet I fully support letting him go at the end of his contract. There is simply no reason to pay a manager as much as Torre is getting payed - much better to put that money into the players. Would you rather have Rick Porcello and John Gibbons or Kevin Ahrens and Joe Torre? I don't think it's close.

Sure, but it's not like the Yankees have been shy about spending money on players.
The lads at Bronx Banter all assume that Joe Girardi, conveniently unemployed (unlike Willie Randolph and Lou Piniella) will be the next man in the dugout. Mattingly is a contender. But my sleeper pick is the third base coach. George is going to want to replace Torre with a hard-ass, who will kick some butts. I eagerly await the Larry Bowa era.

Torre managed rings around Gibbons in the July series that broke the Blue Jays backs, especially the game Towers lost.
Maybe Joe needs a change...of country. C'mon JP, let your Italian bias shine. Make him an offer he can't refuse--Canadian dollars!

I figured that when I saw "sayonara" and "senor" right next to each other, that we were going to have a question about Alberto Fujimori. There have been no Peruvian ballplayers, so it did seem unlikely.
I actually thought something about this being our first tri-lingual poll as I posted it. Anyway ...
It's true, nobody born in Peru has ever played in the big leagues. But there have been half a dozen such men from Lima -- that's pronounced "Lye-ma" rather than "Lee-ma" -- in Ohio, a stone's throw from where I grew up (Bowling Green) ... no stars, but some names you will recongnize (and a few you likely won't): Brad Komminsk, Jim Mertz, Bill Sharp, Paul Shuey, Gene Stechschulte, Jimmy Walsh.
My best friend in college grew up in Lima (Ohio, not Peru) and she always told me it was an acronym standing for "Lost in Middle America."

First of all, Torre is making all that money because of tenure and the TEAM he manages. He wouldn't make that dough in Seattle or LA.
Second, it is time for Torre to go now. He's got to be played out after such a long time in the Yankee Zoo.
Third, regardless of whether its one million or three million per. A manager of his stature is worth the money because of the confidence and respect he holds over the group. Especially a group of prima dona's like the Yankee's. I d' say he's been worth every penny.
And lastly, I don't see Torre looking for another job in the event of dismissal. I'm pretty sure he's looking forward to spending time with his wife and writing a book.
