For me it's Jonny Gomes.

While I really like watching him play ball, I was convinced that last year was a total fluke based on an absurd BIP hit-rate.  Still early in the season, but holy smokes is he making me look dumb.

Not that this is unusual.

For me, it was easy; I went with the one name I actually didn't recognize when I was building the poll -- Cory Sullivan. And he could have been listed in more than "just" triples.

Not recognizing a ballplayer's name. That never would have happened back in the day ...

While none of these choices is completely expected, I think the least expected has got to be Chris Capuano. 40 K's, and not fewer than 6 in any start for a somewhat soft tossing lefty is a pretty terrific start. My honorable mention has to go to Edwin Encarnacion (and the entire Reds team) for a hell of an unexpected start.

I went with Bronson, only because he would really, really be helping my BBFL team right now (you know your BBFL team is in trouble with Mike Freakin' Maroth is your best starter).  I was watching Arroyo for several rounds but always picked someone else because he was never that great a pitcher to begin with and he was going to The Great American Launching Pad.  I was sure he'd get knocked around like crazy.  So far, so wrong!

I pick Arroyo.  I didn't like this trade from Boston's point of view fom the get-go (but loved it as a Jays fan).  While I don't think he'll continue his lights-out start (hence the shocker pick) I also don't think he got the respect his numbers deserved in Boston.

A very serviceable 3rd-4th starter that'll be missed that much more when Beckett and/or Schilling hit the DL.

Big budget teams seem to get enamoured with the big name/big contract guys, often just because they can, and forget the importance of quality mid-level talent to the success of the "team".
