I think it's kinda' cool. I still love the numbers, even if some have broken the law (note I didn't say cheated, since the game itself had no rules against the performance enhancers, even though they're illegal) to do it. I'd rather a player take the 'roids than, say, beat his wife/girlfriend, or drive drunk (Canseco really had all of this down). Well, I'd rather none of it, but it's clear that it was (is?) a level playing field, what with pitchers being caught just as much, and having even better reasons to take steroids in the first place (the faster recovery times from injury that steroids provide seem to go well with the massive strain pitchers place on themselves).
Sosa isn't performing well enough, after his early season surge, to justify letting him play everyday anyway. With 2 tonight to get to 581, Griffey is closing fast. Perhaps Sosa gets 600, starts getting benched more often, and Griffey blows past him anyway? Hopefully, Griffey can hang in there this year and stay healthy.

Yeah, I think I'm around the same feeling with Sosa as with Bonds. Yes, he's had help doing it, but still, that's a *lot* of home runs, and you still need to be a good ballplayer to hit that many. I hate the performance enhancing stuff, and I wish it were banned and nobody ever took it, but the truth is we don't know exactly what Sosa used or how many he would have hit without it, so all I can really say is congratulations Sammy on an impressive career.
