Thanks, Mark Buehrle. Now, your NEXT MLB no-hitter comes from ...
Doc Halladay | 34 (15.38%) |
Daisuke Matsuzaka | 44 (19.91%) |
Roy Oswalt | 13 (5.88%) |
Johan Santana | 47 (21.27%) |
Ben Sheets | 16 (7.24%) |
Carlos Zambrano | 6 (2.71%) |
Other (tell us who!) | 36 (16.29%) |
Nobody for at least a year | 25 (11.31%) |
Josh Towers!
Last year was like a black hole that sucked out all his bad luck.
Although Mark Buehrle thinks the same way too, so what the heck do I know?
Why not go for one more? He's a real wildcard, but I wouldn't bet against him compared to most of his competition.
Probably no one we're expecting. Just look at the list of pitchers to throw no-nos: Buehrle, Lowe, Nomo, Milton, Sanchez, Millwood, Bud Smith... Oh, and Randy Johnson, but he's by far the best of the lot. Lots of decent pitchers, but not the guys you'd expect; Hideo Nomo has two (one in Colorado!) and Greg Maddux has none - how does that make any sense?
So I'll go out on a limb and say... Javier Vazquez or Daniel Cabrera. Over in the NL, Jeff Francis and Bronson Arroyo are the best bets.
I'm going with the 2007 NL Cy Young winner (you heard it here first...well, actually on a previous post) Matt Cain. And I've got some stats to back it up. A couple of weeks ago, I was watching a game of his against the Padres on Sportsnet and he gave up just one hit(in the 6th, I think) over 7 innings. A couple of days ago, he gave up just 2 hits in 7 innings.
Last year, he had given up 2 or less hits on four occasions. A 1-hitter through7 innings, a 2-hitter through 8 innings, a 1-hitter through 8 innings and a 1-hitter through 9 innings. The year before, he had a 2-hitter through 9 innings! In 41 career starts, he's had 7 such starts of atleast 7 innings and at most 2 hits!
That's about 1 flirtation with a no-hitter every 6 starts! That's sick! Amazing...
