The actual line is 81.0. Hopefully this will be good and polarizing.
I voted over, and it would not shock me if the Nationals won the division. There is a decent chance that Strasburg is healthy and wins the Cy Young, and that Harper is up and contributing mightily by July. Conversely, Strasburg may suffer a reinjury and contribute nothing and Harper may not really be ready until next year. A reasonable win bracket for them would be something like 74-92. The spread is larger than for most clubs, because of the importance of high-end talent which may or may not be ready in 2012.
If I remember correctly, Dave Johnson got a lot of consideration for manager of the Jays when Cito was eventually chosen the first time. So for some reason I believe in him. So I chose the over.
Davey Johnson is the guy the Jays _should've_ hired back in '98 instead of Tim Johnson. At the time he had never finished worse than 2nd in any full season. In 1999 his first year with the Dodgers they came in 3rd, then 2nd the next year and he was fired.
Davey Johnson has been interesting.
Mets: fired with the team in 2nd place (playoffs 2 years earlier, 2nd place year before) - team finished in 2nd and would not reach 2nd again for 5 years.
Reds: Left after coming in 1st 2 years running
Orioles: Fired after winning manager of the year and winning 98 games to come in 1st place - they have not been even at 500 since. This is when the Jays could've/should've signed him as manager.
Dodgers: 3rd, 2nd, then fired. The team came in 3rd the next 2 years.
The teams he left always did worse after he left it seems, but while he was there he saw them either improve or be on the edge of the playoffs. I still said 'under' though since I never, ever, ever want to see Washington do well since they stole the team from Montreal. Yes, I am a bitter Expos fan who hates that Loria has a WS ring.
