I checked a bunch, but I am the only one so far to check "I don't think that Escobar will return to his 2008/09 production". I think that he may, but that is more likely that he will fall somewhere between where he was and where he is.
I tried to check three, but it wouldn't let me select more than one ... is there a way to do this of which I am unaware?
I am worried about Escobar's attitude, given the many comments posted by Atlanta fans and commentators on the internet. However, this is an opportunity for him to get his career back on track. My hope is that AA, Cito + co. adopt a "zero-tolerance" approach to any laziness/dogging it/self-centeredness on his part. Shape up or ship out, I say.
Considering where that Grand Slam just landed...I don't think a complete lack of power is something the Jays have to worry about going forward. Wow...welcome to the 2010 homer-happy Jays, Yuniel Escobar! In the totally objective moments following that hit, it's obviously not only a good trade, but the greatest trade ever.
I much prefer to be proven wrong when I expect less than most people (as in the case of Escobar) rather than the reverse. In that spirit, I'll say that I expect JPA to be no better than Buck or Barajas when he arrives.
The Escobar/Gonzalez deal was a bit unconventional for a trade between a 4th place club and a 1st place club in mid-July. Atlanta did not take on salary at all, and very well have the less valuable immediate piece, but ends up positioned to come out (perhaps) ahead of the game in 4-5 years. It wasn't really a conventional seller's trade; actually, it looks from the Jay perspective to be more of a buyer's one. Wouldn't it be a shock to see the 2010 Jays go for it- trade Encarnacion and Buck for a bench/bullpen piece and a prospect, bring up Snider and Arencibia, move Bautista to third and just let 'er rip?
