The most interesting thing about this poll to me is that if we had taken it 3-5 years ago, the 40-30-20-10 split probably would have been Sosa-Bonds-Griffey-Rodriguez with a smattering of votes for Aaron. And now those gues split more like 0-10-0-40, with Aaron, who incidentally got my vote, at 25.

Seems that way, but he has more money than God and probably won't play long enough. But Gitz, I'm willing lay $100 for every homer over 799 that A-Rod hits against $20 for every one he falls short.

The money arguement always seems silly to me. Nolan Ryan was quite rich and hung on until his arm fell off. It looks like Roger Clemens will do the same. Dave Winfield, Paul Molitor, Joe Carter, Tony Fernandez, Dave Stieb all hung around until they were forced off the field (in Stiebs case even longer). Rickey Henderson, seen as an example of the 'modern ballplayer' in a negative sense refuses to retire even though no more stat records exist for him to reach.

A-Rod will probably hang on until he has a World Series ring and then will hold on a few more years until his body finally tells him it is time to quit. You don't get to the top of the game unless you really have a desire to play. That is something that doesn't vanish just because you have more money than you'll ever spend. I suspect if his arm would allow it we'd see Nolan Ryan back out there pitching alongside Rocket Roger tomorrow, even if he wasn't paid a penny.

Andruw Jones should maybe be on this list now. He's stayed healthy, might get to 300 this year (his age 28 season). He's been on Aaron's pace on a year-by-year basis, almost exactly, for three years now.
