I expect Finley to bounce back from an injury riddled year. Apparently his shoulder is healthy & he's back in the NL thus familiarity breeds comfort for him again. I think this will be a steal for the Giants.
Does this trade open up a spot for Hinske or Hillenbrand at 3rdbase...but do the Giants have anything close to what the J's need ?... maybe Finley for Batista & Hinske ?
I can't imagine the Giants would be interested in acquiring an iffy and expensive 3B when Pedro Feliz hit 20 homers last year. He'll just stop splitting his time between 3B and LF, what with Finley around now and that Bonds guys healthy.
Feliz is also an excellent defender at third. Losing Alfonzo at this point is addition by subtraction, provided that Finley gets nowhere near a regular job in San Francisco. I can't believe that they would consider running out an outfield with three men over 40 (by next August, Bonds will be 42, Finley 41 and Alou 41). Is Sabean trying to field a team older than him?
Turns out Sabean is 49. He's not there yet, but he's well on his way.
