My 'other' vote goes to Darwin Cubillan. I don't know if he really had the best name, but he should be part of the discussion.
Hey, you people voting "other" ... please specify!
Thanks, Matthew ... now if the other Others will step up!
I voted for Mark Lemongello, but when it comes to the greatest name in major league history, no one can hold a candle to the late, great Urban Shocker.
Was it Cecil Fielder who inspired a line from Bill James that went something like "follows the trend that players named Black are White, and players named White are Black"...?
I'm a Junior Felix fan. Especially since his Dad was named the same thing, thus making him Junior Felix Jr. and his kid Junior Felix Jr Jr.
I went with Gustavo Chacin. (It pains me to see Frascatore on any "best" list of Blue Jays, by the way.)
Best given name would be a tough one. Leocadio Batista, Gustavo G. Adolfo Chacin Gonzalez, and a bunch of others I know I've missed.
Question: Why doesn't Batista's entry at B-Ref list his mother's maiden name, like Carlos Juan Delgado Hernandez?

Oh, Chacin should've been on there, yes. Frascatore, I can't help it and this is sort of like Chris Berman and his nicknames, but I keep thinking to myself, "When the moon hits your eye, like a big pizza pie, Frascatore ..."
Candy Maldonado, the people's choice, is indeed a wonderful, mellifluous name - but I have to go with Rance. Both his names are unique, and I have fond memories of him coming up to bat, while my friends and I have cried in unison "R-R-R-ANTS!"
Other: Mookie Wilson. Just having a name like that to cheer invigorated the crowds in 1991.
DINGDINGDINGDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Today's secret word was "mellifluous."
Huck Flener, Juan Beniquez, Tilson Brito, Frank Viola. Great names, if not great players
I also voted "Other" for the legendary Mookie Wilson.
Does Tilson Brito have any relation to young Phillies reliever Eube Brito?
He seems to be my all-purpose answer to every poll question, but Garth Iorg has to pull some votes here. What a delightfully weird name.
My childhood cries of Let's Go Iorgy! every time he came to bat brought stifled laughter from my father and stern, disapproving looks from my mother. It wasn't until I was a little bit older that I understood why...

I voted for Candyman, but I wish I had voted "Other" and listed Garth Iorg, Otto Velez, or (my favourite "reverse name") Jackson Todd.
Yep, I also voted for Garth Iorg. That Garth/Rance platoon at third was definitely worthy of All-Name Team status.
I always enjoyed Aquilino Lopez's name, too. Didn't enjoy his pitching so much, though.

What, no love for Huck Flener?
His major league debut, in someone else's jersey, wearing someone else's shoes and with a borrowed glove (because his luggage was lost or something on his way to being called up) is forever burned into my memory.
I also remember the play-by-play: "If you're wondering why (name forgotten -- whoever's jersey Flener was wearing), the right handed fielder, is on the mound pitching left handed..."

Flener was wearing Shawn Green's jersey. I'm not sure Green had himself appeared in a game for the Jays yet.
I voted Candy but now I wish I had thought of Huck Flener.
I remember watching his debut, in a borrowed jersey.
The story goes that he went out to the mound and Darrin Fletcher (I think) came out and said, "What do you throw?"
HF: I've got a fast ball and a curve...
DF: We'll go with those.
He threw two pitches, a fast ball and a curve, got the out and ended the inning.

I voted for Lemongello, although let us not forget John Bocabella and Coco Laboy of the Expos at these times.
