I really, really wanted to vote for Brett. But he wasn't even the best third basemen in MLB during his career (Schmidt was), let alone the best in baseball.
Cobb was viewed as the best in baseball history pre-Ruth and by some even post-Ruth. Scum of a person but heck of a ballplayer. Smart as it came, sneaky, used every rule in the book to his advantage. Hit more home runs than most in his era despite his distaste for it. Imagine a guy better than Rickey Henderson in everything Henderson did and even more sure of himself and you got Cobb.
Feller was a solid pitcher, but no inner circle guy. Puckett is a marginal HOF'er, Thomas a solid one but again, like Brett, it can be argued he wasn't even the best at his position during his career.

Yah Cobb was great, too bad he was such a racist... that lost him my vote...
