Which Jays starting pitcher will allow the fewest runs per 9 innings in 2011? (Must have 80 IP to qualify.)
Brett Cecil | 18 (15.13%) |
Kyle Drabek | 3 (2.52%) |
Jesse Litsch | 3 (2.52%) |
Brad Mills | 1 (0.84%) |
Brandon Morrow | 39 (32.77%) |
Ricky Romero | 49 (41.18%) |
Marc Rzepczynski | 4 (3.36%) |
Zach Stewart | 1 (0.84%) |
other (who?) | 1 (0.84%) |

I went with Rzepczynski since I figure he'll get a lot of relief innings too which would lower his overall ERA. And even if he just starts odds are he won't get too many starts thus would have a shot at a very low ERA (or very high) due to sample size.
Now, among the big 3 plus Litsch I'd probably go with Morrow as he has the greatest potential imo.

My first instinct was actually Cecil, but I voted Romero because. well, um ... duh!
I voted Rzepczynski, but reasonable projections for Morrow, Romero, Rzepczynski and Cecil would all be in the 3.75-4.25 range, and Drabek wouldn't be too far behind.
Good question.

I'm surprised Morrow only has one of the first 16 votes. I went Romero, and if I wanted to make a grandstand play I'd take Rzepczynski, but Morrow's FIP beat them both by 50 points last year. It was second-best on the team behind Downs, including relievers but not September callups.
Just to be a contrarian, I voted for Litsch. He's always been under-rated, and the early reports from spring training are that he's finally back at full strength.
The other factor in favour of Morrow is the change in team defence. The loss of Overbay will probably result in a decline in ground defence, while Davis for Wells in centerfield will probably result in an improvement in air defence. Morrow benefits from these changes while Romero, Rzepczynski and to a lesser degree Cecil suffer from them.
I voted for Litsch. I like his & Cecil's mental toughness & their ability to make adjustments. The pure stuff of Morrow & Romero is awesome. I could not decide who was the best of our big four last year. I also don't know who will be the best this year of Romero, Cecil, Morrow, Litsch & Zep based on what I have seen from their results so far. They all have confidence in themselves & their stuff is good enough. Drabek is too inexperienced for me to comment on.
