My thinking is that without Clemens, the Yanks are vulnerable and the Sox are pretty solid. With Clemens, the Yanks become much more dangerous and the Sox become unbeatable. So I voted Boston, figuring it's the scenario more likely to see the Jays get out of third place.
I really don't think it matters. I think Roger is going to struggle against american league lineups. I know never to bet against him, but i think he will have a tough year this year if he goes to the AL.
Struggle as in double his ERA? That would still make him the best starter in New York or Boston.
I'd also vote neither in a heartbeat, but since that's hardly the point of this poll I'd pick Boston for exactly the same reasons as Johnny. The way I see it, New York is a team that's quickly fading and vulnerable, while Boston is already good enough to win the division. Give him to Boston and they roll to a division title, leaving Toronto and New York pretty even, in my eyes, in contention for 2nd and hopefully the wild card.
There has been, as far as I can tell, really only one non-knuckleballing successful pitcher at age 43- Nolan Ryan. Clemens is probably a good bet to be the second, but that is not a sure thing. I don't think that he'll do quite as well as Ryan.
If the Yankees or Red Sox spend $16 kajillion dollars for him, that will be a good thing for the Jays because of the lack of resultant lack of funds for other purposes.
