Thanks to Brian W. for this poll question idea. How long will Sweet Lou Piniella stick with his Earnshaw Cook idea of starting a reliever and relieving with starters?
Are you nuts? He won't even try it at all. | 39 (41.49%) |
Until their first loss with the new system. | 9 (9.57%) |
A week or less, until the media hound him out of it. | 22 (23.40%) |
For a while, but it will fade away slowly. | 8 (8.51%) |
The rest of the season. | 4 (4.26%) |
This will start a revolution; Rivera and Gordon will be the top NYY starters through 2009. | 12 (12.77%) |

Well, Pinella hasn't tried it yet, but those three first inning runs tonight might just push him to do it. I voted that he wouldn't do it, but I would like to see it tried. His team has a 5.85 ERA (14th of 14), 823 OPS against (14th), 1.58 WHIP (14th), 1.39 K/BB (14th), 5.75 K/9 (13th, with Toronto 12th, Seattle 14th). i.e., worst pitching in the league, and at this pace, could be the worst in a while (in this century at least the AL hasn't had an ERA that high).
What does he have to lose at this point? Somehow I think "his job" is not an answer that would concern him greatly.
