Picking up on the debate, what should the Jays do at the deadline?

Yeah, you see, there's a problem with the option that everyone is picking. 92-93 points it out in the discussion: it is debatable that dealing the FA for prospects will actually bring a greater return than just holding on to them and hoping for good picks.
But you gotta spend the money and draft overslot if you're going to keep your FAs.
Have the Jays proven they can do that?
Also it will depend on when AA sees this team competing. Getting prospects back for your pending FAs can increase the chances of having MLB ready players sooner.

There's no reason the team can't be buyers and sellers at the deadline to maximize returns ^^
What Brent said. Teams that don't have to either buy or sell are ideally positioned to get max value, and we have plenty of money to take contracts off the hands of teams that are struggling with payroll. Now if only someone would waive a potential all star center fielder...
I don't understand the argument that you can't get back more than the value of the compensation draft picks - teams trading for a Buck or a Downs are well aware that they will get comp picks back (assuming that they are willing to offer arbitration - and we can wait for teams that are) and that plus half a season for a major league vet performing well above replacement level should of course raise the value of the player.

The AA FO certainly hasn't proven that they can't...too early to see how many they sign from the '10 draft.
I abstained because none of the answers are the correct course in my mind.
Target Jed Lowrie to play SS for the next couple years is what I'd be looking to do. His stock is at rock bottom and I think he could be a good SS if he finally gets healthy.
I'd be open to anything, i think the chance of competing this year are there but slim and they will be there next year as well. If I can bring back a player that will help me this year and has some team control I would buy while at the same time sell some of the excess bullpen arms if I get offers I like better than the potential picks. Overbay, Gonzalez and Buck I would sell for a B prospect each

I'm with 92-92. None of the choices are what work for me.
