Which AL team would you most like to see in the World Series?
Athletics | 42 (30.88%) |
Tigers | 16 (11.76%) |
Twins | 68 (50.00%) |
Yankees | 10 (7.35%) |
Yankees- (they prob will) but no. Just no.
Tigers- My town is a Tiger town. Dusty Tiger hats have come out of the closet. The sports section has Tigers stuff on the cover nearly everyday. But where were they when the Tigers sucked? Fairweather fans.
Athletics- Boring, boring, boring. Plus Moneyball and sabermetrics? Bleh.
So I guess it's the Twins. Mauer and Morneau and Santana and Nathan. Plus, Minnesota is almost Canada. So GO TWINS!!!
I will comment from a Blue Jay fanboy perspective:
The Evil Empire -- Ron, you're not allowed to vote twice. Yuck.
Tigers -- Easy. I cried myself to sleep for the entire month of September 1987. Hey, I was 14. So, nope.
Twins -- They have already won two WS in my lifetime. And they beat the Jays in 1991. I do like their team, but....
As -- Yes, our boys in blue got beaten by Rickey Henderson in 1989, but then the Jays turned the tables in 1992. And got Rickey in 1993. Plus, they do have another sweet Canadian, Rich Harden. Tangentially, my uncle is from Castro Valley in the East Bay, the birthplace of Ed Sprague. So, go As go!
Put me down for the Twins. At least they have the right closer in the ninth. Jimmy baby, please put Zoom Zoom or Rodney there. You will regret it if you use Jones, unless it's a big lead heading to the ninth, which with that Punch 'n Judy offense of yours ain't too likely. With the Twins bullpen, all they need from a starter is 5 innings and Johan can give them far more than that. 5 innings and then Reyes, Neshek, Rincon, and Nathan plus a day off when Johan pitches. They're the team to beat for me.
The Yanks look vulnerable aside from a 1 through 9 murderers row. Johnson's herniated disk and Rivera's sprained UCL, which he rushed back from in 2 weeks could really come into play here. Proctor has got to be gassed from all those appearances and innings (83 and 102.3- does Joe Torre never learn? Tom Gordon, Paul Quantrill and now Scott Proctor.). Their bullpen appears to have more depth than previous seasons, but we'll see.
Detroit's strength is that starting 4 and Zumaya, Rodney and Jamie Walker plus that tremendous infield defense. Pudge cuts off the running game and Granderson runs everything down in CF. Leyland made another mistake starting Bonderman on Sunday. They need their ace to get them off to a great start in "the Stadium". Hopefully Robertson and Verlander will have the cahones to deal with the inevitable jitters of pitching there in October. If they can pull off a split of the first two games, I give the Tigers an excellent chance to win this series.
Oakland's pretty happy to have Canada's own Rich Harden back, but is he back for good? If he is with Zito and Haren does Oakland have the best starting of the teams that are left? It sure looks like it. I just can't see them overcoming their offense and Huston Street's very average sophomore season. I think this opening round will be a lot of fun and could have a lot of surprises. I'm looking forward to it and as always my motto is: ABTY: Anyone But The Yankees.
