Apologies to Mark Teixeira and Lyle Overbay, who are hurt, to Ross Gload, Robb Quinlan and Ben Broussard, who are having nice years but in limited duty, and to Kevin Millar and Aubrey Huff, who combined are having a good year (.270/11/59) for the Orioles. That gets us to 10 on the ballot. Anyone missing?
Yes, yes, "Big Papi" Ortiz may win this position, but in the Red Sox' first 72 games, he played exactly 48 innings at 1B, so he doesn't make this list.
Morneau if he's healthy. Otherwise, if Teix is also out, you've got to look at Pena or Youkilis, I guess.
Morneau, Teixeira and Youkilis in that order, depending on health.
Morneau, Morneau and Morneau... I don't believe one should pick all-stars based on just a hot first half-season, it makes more sense to look at the year previously and from July 06 to July 07, it is hard to pick anyone over Morneau.
Considering that this is 1B, that's an underwhelming group of players.
