Now this is a tough one. S has tons of greats, as does W. W has two guys with an arguement for being the best ever (Wagner & Williams) while S has Seaver & Spahn anchoring the staff, not to mention the best third baseman ever in Mike Schmidt and a killer up the middle of Ozzie Smith/Ryne Sandberg and Tris Speaker (considered among the best ever by some). I'm going with S as they seem to only weaken at the edges and even then not by much.

S would just be a fantastically entertaining team to watch. I'd pay good money to see that infield, that outfield and that pitching staff working in harmony.

They're better than W, but W would give any team fits. It wouldn't be easy facing an Earl Weaver club with "Spittin' Ed" Walsh plus three knuckleballers...to say nothing of Messrs. Dutchman and Splinter. W suffers from not being a naturally occurring letter in old Spanish, thus depriving the team of players with Latino surnames.

Honus and Ted would give anyone a run for their money. The Flying Dutchman is my favourite old player, and if he was having a season like 1908 then maybe the w's would have an outside shot... but I still have to give it to team S.

I voted for the W squad, but I have to admit I'm putting a fair bit of stock in the knuckler and some heroics by Williams & Wagner to pull their team through. By most objective measures, the S squad appears to be the one to beat.

Say, is there going to be a wild card vote after this for best of the 2nd placers? Some of them were dang close and with a few more arguments could be viewed as better than who won.

Now, if I just had my good ol' Tony LaRussa Basball v2 again I'd simulate the teams for fun. That was my favorite baseball simulator, although Baseball Mogul has been a lot of fun.

Seaver and Spahn don't need much help from Simmons, and Ozzie, Sandberg and Speaker down the middle of the defence is about as good as it gets. The S's win the Chisox way with pitching and defence. Oh, yeah and a few homers from Schmidt.

MY impluse was to vote for W, and I did...but upon further review, it would be close but i thinkn S would pull this one out...if this is a short wild card series then anything could happen.

baseball mogul would be the best place to sim this to see if we got em right.
