For the record, the candidates in the poll are the six guys who actually received votes in the balloting plus Putz as the token closer -- he was clearly the AL's best this year (sorry saves leader Joe Borowski, that ERA of 5+ wouldn't look shiny on a Cy plaque!) ...
Oh, and anyone voting for Halladay, defend yourself here ... He's one of the two best pitchers in the AL overall, but neither (Santana the other) was a better Cy candidate than CC or Josh this year, I don't think. Make your case!
I voted C.C., but I'm guessing the Halladay yea-sayers would point to the 7 complete games... not that that puts him anywhere near the conversation, I just can't think of anything else he has on the rest of the league.
The complete games are nullified in my mind by his low innings pitched (a result of the injury). It's not hard to see what he has on the rest of the league though - he is most voters' favourite pitcher =)
Actually, despite the injury Halladay had the 5th most innings pitched in MLB in 2007 (225) - 25 more innings than Beckett.
I voted for him - a) because the complete games are impressive in the present era and b) I think he deserves a vote (if not the award) because of all of the heartbreakers after the All Star break, just like last year, that kept him from getting the wins he should have. Do you not think if he had 21 wins he would have gotten more consideration from the Cy Young voters?
