I voted Santana. He's still the best pitcher in the league.
Can't argue with a vote for Santana, though I went with Haren -- I honestly believe he has eclipsed the Twin Wonder as the AL's top SP. But a vote for any of Santana, Haren or Sabathia is perfectly sensible at this point. And as I write this, I see those three have combined for nearly 75 percent of the votes cast, so -- well done, Bauxites! Frankly, I expected Halladay to win this in a landslide, but it looks like at this point, he has just 3 of the first 113 votes cast, a perfectly reasonable homerism reflection.
For the record, I think Halladay is right there with the three guys mentioned above as the AL's elite, but it seems unlikely he is even going to make the AL team this year, much less start the game.
It was a difficult choice, but I went with Johan. He brings the best year after year, it's hard to find a pitcher that good who is also a workhorse.
Regarding Halladay, I have no doubt that his abilities could bring him to top this poll easily. When he's on, he runs with the best of them. He's just been off to a really rough start this year. But we haven't seen all the best of Halladay yet. He will find it again, and when he does, look out.
