Lansing racked up 13 runs on 14 hits and cruised. Every starter had a hit. Buffalo won 5-2 with Reece McGuire homering and Ryan Borucki pitching well. New Hampshire were walked off, literally, even though Vlad had three hits. Dunedin played two and lost both by 4-3 scores.

Jordan Romano was outstanding for New Hampshire in a day game on Thursday. Over seven innings he allowed one run on two hits. The Fisher Cats won with Lourdes Gurriel hitting his first home run of the year. Dunedin were held to three hits and lost. Kevin Vicuna made three errors and Lansing lost by a run. He tried to compensate with four hits. Yesterday Logan Warmoth made three errors so there is some butter fingers among the systems shortstops.

Roger Clemens was famous for his strikeouts. He finished his career with 4,672 of them. His son Kacy is not so fond of the K's. In 45 plate appearances Clemens has 15 walks and only seven punch-outs. What would happen if he faced his father? Clemens walked twice, and had two hits, on Wednesday to lead Lansing to victory. One of his hits was a triple, and he stole a base, showing some ability on the bases. New Hampshire also won with Vlad Jr. doing his usual hitting. And Dunedin won with Dalton Pompey having a good night and Anthony Alford one to forget. Just like the Blue Jays it was a sweep night on the farm.

Lansing won while Buffalo and Dunedin lost. New Hampshire had the day off. The Lugnuts scored 11 runs in the seventh inning en route to an easy win. Jordan Romano took the first star with seven shutout innings.

It was three wins and two losses for the affiliates on Wednesday. One of the key differentiators in the early going has been bullpen performance. The Jays affiliates have received good starting pitching and the hitting has been decent too. If the bullpen can hold the lead the affiliate has a good chance of winning but when it blows up, there is a loss in the cards. On Wednesday the Lugnut bullpen blew up good and turned a lead into a loss. The Bisons bullpen took over in a loss and got the team a win. Similarly the D Jays bullpen helped them out in the second game of their doubleheader.

Three of the affiliates have played four games, the Bisons have been rained and/or snowed out so far. In general it has been a good start for the affiliates but as usual we have to say it's early. Buffalo, Lansing and New Hampshire are all northern teams but Buffalo have been the unluckiest with the weather so far. Although the Lugnuts played with the temperature below zero so its not exactly baseball weather.

Three affiliates started their seasons last night, all of the them on the road, and they all won. It was a fine night on the farm. It is easy to overreact to one game at the start of the season so we will try not to do that but there were some performances that caught the eye.
