Short(ish) & sweet today, as the day job looms. A stirring debut from a very promising youngster, and the Jays' affiliates went 4-1 overall but Pulaski will get most of the ink.

After watching the Jays bats struggle all night at Skydome, I got home to find out that the bats were very much alive down in the minors. 4 wins as all 6 affiliates were in action for the first time this year.

Minor-league action in the Toronto system last night saw Pulaski playing their season opener and putting on a show, while Auburn won a close one in their home opener. Meanwhile, the Syracuse bats were anemic and the New Hampshire pitchers were flammable. Dunedin and Charleston rested on the laurels of their first-half division titles.

Auburn notches their first win, Dunedin and Charleston play meaningless games, Syracuse get thirteen hits and lose, New Hampshire play extra innings and win, and Pulaski start their season tonight.

Charleston clinched the 1st half title, and New Hampshire kept on winning on Saturday. It was also my daughter's Bat Mitzvah, so even a 2-3 record for the farm affiliates tastes sweet.

Last night Dunedin and Charleston reduced their magic numbers to one and two respectively. Dunedin beat Ramiro Mendoza for good measure. Could the big league Jays do that? Today is opening day for the Auburn Doubledays.

I’ll start with the bad news. Russ Adams tweaked his left quad muscle in the 7th and is out for a week or so. Marvin Benard also went down with a groin pull and will likely be out much longer. On the brighter side, so called “Rios-lite”, Miguel Negron is having a breakout year of his own in the pitcher friendly Florida State League.

Ironically enough, it’s New Hampshire that officially had an Off Day yesterday. Syracuse, Dunedin, and Charleston all played some ball, and combined for 2 runs while giving up 28.

The three Jays farm teams that played yesterday combined for exactly four runs. New Hampshire eked out a win thanks to a strong start from Cam Reimers and some excellent relief pitching.

Two game-winning homers, a fine start for Josh Banks and a Fisher Cat rout were the highlights of a 3-1 Saturday for the Jay farm affiliates.

It's a rare and enjoyable occasion when I get to attend a game in person that features Blue Jays prospects, but that was the case last night as the Skychiefs visited Ottawa. So now, whenever someone sarcastically demands whether I've ever actually seen any of these prospects that I write about, I can say, "Why, of course; I saw three of them in June." Today's report focuses heavily on the AAA game here in the NCR last night; Dunedin had the night off while New Hampshire won and Charleston lost.
