Get it? Because World Cup? No? Anyway, Auburn got their season started on Friday night, and continued it on Sunday night. Chronology. Funny how that works! Anyway, they scored lots of runs! Unfortunately, the other team scored more. This proved to be a theme throughout the night (the other team scoring more part, not necessarily the scoring lots of runs part), and the only win on the evening came from Toronto's Dominican affiliate.
Our farm boys managed only one win in five games Saturday Night. Las Vegas managed the only win in the system besting Colorado Springs 7-2. New Hampshire, Dunedin, Lansing and Auburn all lost, for varying reasons. But generally, our pitching gave up too many runs and our hits were too spread out to make a difference. Funny how that works.
Aburn won 8-0, Carlos Perez had three hits, Gustavo Pierre hit a home run, Egan Smith pitched five shutout innings. New Hampshire won, David Cooper hit two home runs. Of note Danny Farquhar pitched the setup role while Tim Collins pitched the ninth for the second straight night. Collins struck out the side for the save.
A 2-2 and night for the North American affiliates thanks to some 8th inning dramatics made for an interesting night. Plus, Brian Jeroloman didn't hit safely but reached base 4 times. How did he do it. All this, and more, in MINOR LEAGUE UPDATE.
I was in Erie last weekend and I caught the saturday and Sunday games against Erie. I talked with the coaching staff, with scouts and whoever else would talk to me to build up a picture of the Fisher Cats. and of course I watched both games. Here is my report.
Throughout the remainder of the 2010 season, I'm going to update my Top 75 Jays' prospects list once a month. This is the first installment. Draft picks from 2010 will be added as they sign - beginning in July. Suggestions are always welcomed, with a supporting explanation, to help shape the next list.
Kyle Drabek took the loss as New Hampshire lost again to Akron. Drabek pitched OK but walks, and an error behind him, cost him. Henderson Alvarez had a rough first inning and was pulled from his start and Dunedin went on to lose. Las Vegas won, Luis Perez made his first AAA start and was shaky but got the win. Brad Emaus and Jarrett Hoffpauir were the hitting stars. Lansing also won, thanks to 13 hits including three each for Kevin Ahrens and Ryan Goins.
You'll find all of the wins up top in a 3-2 night for the U.S. affiliates. The Dominican Jays were 1-0.
Two of the affiliates had the night off, and two took the night off. Also: an in-depth look at the Dunedin roster.
What a difference a day makes for Adam Loewen.
Adam Loewen single-handedly beat up on Erie Saturday. Loewen was 5-5 with three doubles and a home run leading New Hampshire to an 11-5 win. Lansing had a come from behind victory with Brad Glenn hitting a home run and stealing home. Two pitchers coming off injuries started those games, Bobby Bell and Egan Smith.
Las Vegas were blown out 10-1 although JP Arencibia hit his 13th home run.
Las Vegas were losing to Colorado Springs but they scored three runs off Huston Street and four off Juan Rincon to get the win. New Hampshire had excellent pitching by Ronald Uviedo, BJ LaMura and Tim Collins to shut out Erie. An Eric Thames home run in the first was all the scoring they needed. Ryan Tepera pitched seven innings and didn't give up an earned run as Lansing won. Dunedin are in their all star break.
The farm went 4-1 and Lance Broadway and Kyle Drabek's 3/1 GB/FB ratio were the worst of the 4 starters.
There was one victory in three games on the farm, as Las Vegas had the day off. Dunedin won a one-run game, while Lansing lost in extra innings on an error. Meanwhile, New Hampshire was shut out by an unlikely source.
See what happens when the parent club loses 9-0? It made me forget today was my day for the MLU! My apologies for the lateness and I will be into the whole brevity thing as a result! It was a 1-3 night for the North American affiliates and a .500 night in the Dominican.
