NOTES

New Hampshire had four hits. One of them was a solo home run by Garrett Spain in the ninth inning. Ryan McCarty had two hits, Dasan Brown doubled and walked.

Abdiel Mendoza took the loss, he was charged with all three runs in four innings. Andres Tolhurst struck out five in two innings.

A day after making the playoffs, and presumably celebrating, Vancouver were shutout on five hits.

Kendry Rojas however was on form. He gave up one run in six innings, it was a solo home run, the only baserunner he had in six innings. He struck out six.

In Dunedin's first game the Jays scored ten runs with just seven hits. They also had seven walks, two hit batters and four Tampa errors. All seven hits were singles. Sean Keys was 3-3 with a walk and two RBI. The Jays used five pitchers. Gage Stanifer started and was pulled after getting one out. There was a rain delay so hopefully that was the reason.

The D Jays scored five more runs in the second game. This time there were some extra base hits. Carter Cunningham hit a two run home run in the sixth. Yhoangel Aponte hit a solo shot in the seventh. Arjun Nimmala tripled and Aaron Parker doubled. Sean Keys singled and walked.

Daniel Guerra allowed one run in four innings. Jonathan Todd pitched the seventh. The Jays 15th round pick this season has pitched three innings, no hits, one walks, six K's. Its a small sample but its a good start to his career.

Colby Martin round 16 throws hard 99 but very wild. Hope the Jays can fix that.

I had not been paying much attention to Kendry Rojas, but he's been very good since returning in July. C's Plus Baseball notes velocity readings, and says he had three strikeouts at 96 last night, which would be an improvement on the 92 he was said to sit at prior to the season. He has a very healthy 15% swinging strike rate.

Rojas touched 95-97 mph in 2023, also. He was more 92-94 mph in 2022 when I saw him.

For anyone interested, here is a link to my shared Google doc that tracks all rosters for the Blue Jays system. Also includes milb service time, options, rule 5 eligibility, etc. for the entire system. Data is as of the start of 2024, though, and will be updated once the season ends (ie. service time, options, etc).

A well formatted spreadsheet - a man after my own heart! Fantastic stuff Marc.

This does appear to line up with what I thought in regards to Rule 5 eligibility, so it looks like we have some interesting decisions to make.

I'm thinking the Rule 5 locks are: Wallace, Pardinho, Juenger, Santos, Estrada

Might be added: Fisher, Tirotta, Tolhurst

Added depending on how long they're out: Cooke, Dallas

Position players are always less likely to be protected, so I don't think Palmegiani, Clarke, Robertson, or Dasan Brown get added. Clarke can hit but given the lack of power, position, and receiving ability, he has limited value to an ML team, especially the Jays.

Nunez, Pinango, Gabby Martinez, Paulino, De Jesus all MiLB FAs. That's where the interesting choices come in.

Given Danner only has 1 more option year, I'm really surprised they didn't bring him up.

The question is how many spots will be available on the 40-Man. 16 relievers currently, a few of whom are going to get DFA'd without question, and they probably let Raposo/Serven go to free up spots, with Berroa getting DFA'd.

Thoughts? Anything I'm missing?

Does Tiedemann need to be protected for the rule 5? He was drafted out of Golden West JC which is listed as a college.

I think that there are about 14 players that can be removed from the 40 man roster without hurting the team such as Burr unless the Jays value him.

Most selected rule 5 players are returned because their presence on the active roster weakens the team. I only see CWS, Miami and Colorado as not planning to contend next year so they can have "not ready" players that will most likely make them even more weak than they already are. These 3 teams have been bad for a few years now so they should have strong farms with prospects that need to be protected. The other 27 teams hope to compete to some degree I presume.

If someone like Yerry Rogriguez is DFA'd someone may take him and the Jays have not lost much IMO.

I protect Juenger because he only had a bad April. June was not as bad. All the other months were very good. He has cut down on his HRs.

Tiedemann was 18 at the time of the draft and didn't turn 19 until a month later do he has five pro seasons before he needs to be protected... which puts him at a November 2025 deadline, if not before.
