Buffalo Bisons

The Buffalo Bisons lost 14-8 to the Durham Bulls on Wednesday night.

An Austin Shenton homer for the Bulls started the 6-run first inning. He would hit another in the bottom of the second to make it 8-3 Bulls.

The Bisons have not announced a starter in today’s matchup against Durham. Game time is 6:35 pm EDT.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats lost 8-4 on Wednesday to the Altoona Curve, the Pittsburgh Pirates Double-A Affiliate.

Altoona scored five in their half of the first inning when doubles by Nick Cimillo and Tres Gonzalez, along with Jase Bowen's home run, gave the Curve the lead.

The Fisher Cats Lazaro Estrada was roughed up for five earned runs on five hits in three innings in this game. He also had two walks and three strikeouts.

New Hampshire’s Garrett Spain made it 5-1 with a solo shot in the top of the third, but the Curve used two more home runs to make it 8-1 by the end of the sixth.

Kevin Miranda starts in Thursday’s game for the Fisher Cats. Game time is 6:00 pm EDT.

  Vancouver Canadians

The Vancouver Canadian won 10-5 Wednesday night against the Hillsboro Hops thanks to a four-run first inning.

Payton Williams and Jay Harry blasted two-run homers in the first inning but the Hops would counter with three of their own when Gino Groover blasted a three-run shot off of Juaron Watts-Brown.

Watts-Brown got the win in this start but did surrender another first inning homer like his start the previous Wednesday. He went five innings allowing the three runs from the homer to go with three walks and six strikeouts.

Payton Williams had another strong night with six total bases to go with the home run and two RBI’s.

Jackson Hornung had a triple to go with six total bases while Nick Goodwin had a double, three total bases and three RBI’s. Jay Harry had six total bases, four RBI’s and a home run.

The Canadians and Hops restock off tonight at 7:05PM PDT. Kendry Rojas (3-1 1.79 ERA) starts for the C’s.

  Dunedin Blue Jays

Weather was a factor in two games for the Dunedin Blue Jays Wednesday against the Lakeland Flying Tigers, with one game seeing the Flying Tigers win 4-2 in eight and the second postponed.

Dunedin had a 2-0 lead after two, thanks in part to J.R. Freehy scoring on an Eddie Micheletti Jr single.

In the eighth inning, Lakeland made it a 4-2 deadlock when Jackson Strong ground the ball into a double play, allowing David Smith to score.

There will be two games on Thursday between Dunedin and Lakeland, with the first game of the doubleheader starting at 5:05 pm ET.

The Blue Jays will send Daniel Guerra to the mound, but no Clearwater starter will be announced for game one. Starters for game two are TBD.

For September call ups my hope is for Hayden Juenger on the pitching side (has to be added to the 40 man this winter I think so might as well see if he can pitch in the majors before committing), and Luis De Los Santos just to get him the extra roster time (plus useful as a backup everywhere but C). A 3rd catcher would be nice but probably just sits and doesn't play (Max McDowell - 9 years in the minors but not 1 second in the majors, drafted in 2015, Jays his 4th organization, Phil Clarke is a lifetime Jay drafted in 2019, but need someone to catch in AAA).

I miss the old days where they could call up everyone on the 40 man if they wanted to. It was fun having 3rd catchers, pinch runners, pure defense guys all up for cups of coffee in September - many of whom would never get a shot again. Perhaps adjust it so they can call up everyone but only use 2 extras vs contenders, but anyone you wish when it is 2 teams mathematically eliminated or 10+ out come September 1st.
