Two players hit grand slam home runs on Sunday. Will Robertson did it in the first inning for Buffalo but it wasn't enough to get a win. Eddie Micheletti did it in the ninth inning for Dunedin and they won by five. Jace Bohrofen had a plain solo home run as Vancouver won. New Hampshire threw the ball around in one inning and that was enough for a loss.

Omaha 7 Buffalo 6

Hartford 5 New Hampshire 1

Everett 1 Vancouver 6

Dunedin 12 Clearwater 7

NOTES

There were several lead changes in the Buffalo game but it came down to the eighth inning where both Mason Fluharty and Hayden Juenger were taken deep by Omaha hitters. James Kaprelian had started and gave up four runs in four innings.

Will Robertson hit a grand slam home run in the first inning. Robertson was not in the original lineup but was inserted when Jonatan Clase was removed. The home run was Buffalo's only extra base hit. Alan Roden had three hits, Nathan Lukes two.

New Hampshire had a bad fifth inning where Hartford scored all five of their runs. The runs were unearned thanks to errors by Charles McAdoo and Abdiel Mendoza. There was also a passed ball and a failed fielders choice.

Devonte Brown homered for NH's only run. Yohendrick Pinango had two singles.

In Vancouver Pat Gallagher pitched a one hitter over five innings with seven K's.

The C's used five extra base hits to beat up Everett pitching. Brennan Orf got the scoring started with an RBI generating ground rule double in the second inning. In the fourth Peyton Williams and Nick Goodwin both doubled leading to two runs. Jace Bohrofen homered in the fifth. Jevon Ward's double leading off the sixth set the table for two more runs. Ward was 2-4, Bryce Arnold was 3-3 with a walk and an RBI.

Eddie Micheletti hit a grand slam for Dunedin in the ninth inning to make a one run lead a five run lead. Micheletti also singled twice. Jaden Rudd hit his first home run of the year, a three run shot in the fourth inning. Manuel Beltre was 2-2 with three walks. JR Freethy also waled three times, and singled.

The Jays used six pitchers. Colby Holcombe started and went three innings, one run allowed.

AAA

Young:

* X IF Martinez (22): 269pa, 8.9b%, 24.2k%, .288bip, .260avg, .264iso, 120wrc+
* OF Clase (22): 357pa, 12.6b%, 25.2k%, .321bip, .259avg, .193iso, 99wrc+

Unfortunately Clase has flat out stunk since we traded for him, and in a not insignificant sample. I'm sure he'll be fine but he's definitely not demanding any kind of september callup or anything.

Right Age:

* X IF Jimenez (23): 226pa, 13.3b%, 15.0k%, .300bip, .271avg, .160iso, 131wrc+
* IF Kasevich (23): 71pa, 5.6b%, 15.5k%, .364bip, .313avg, .075iso, 96wrc+

Leo looking like a legit MLBer at this point. Kasevich only being held up by his babip and I'd wager that keeps falling.

Slightly Old:

* X UT Barger (24): 249pa, 16.1b%, 19.3k%, .299bip, .260avg, .206iso, 127wrc+
* OF Roden (24): 197pa, 12.7b%, 14.2k%, .328bip, .298avg, .161iso, 123wrc+

Roden has completely caught up to Barger now, and likely passes him soon in terms of AAA performance. Definitely in line for a cup of coffee in the bigs soon.

Veterans:

* X 1B Horwitz (26): 259pa, 17.0b%, 15.8k%, .401bip, .335avg, .179iso, 159wrc+
* OF Lukes (29): 220pa, 9.5b%, 14.5k%, .367bip, .330avg, .142iso, 131wrc+
* X IF Wagner (25): 355pa, 16.6b%, 10.4k%, .339bip, .315avg, .129iso, 129wrc+
* IF DeLosSantos (26): 140pa, 13.6b%, 21.4k%, .325bip, .278avg, .200iso, 129wrc+
* X OF Berroa (25): 239pa, 12.1b%, 23.8k%, .373bip, .296avg, .160so, 123wrc+
* X OF Loperfido (25): 189pa, 11.1b%, 28.0k%, .316bip, .272avg, .296iso, 122wrc+
* 1B Tirotta (25): 270pa, 14.1b%, 26.3k%, .305bip, .243avg, .198iso, 116wrc+
* X C Serven (29): 159pa, 16.4b%, 28.9k%, .386bip, .265avg, .114iso, 110wrc+

All of these guys legitimately earned themselves MLB looks this year (though Tirotta might be falling out of that range soon). Horwitz the only one whose performance outright demanded a callup tho.

AA

Young:

* IF Paulino (21): 278pa, 10.4b%, 21.6k%, .335bip, .263avg, .128iso, 112wrc+

Any idea if he'll play for us this year?

Right Age:

* IF McAdoo (22): 196pa, 11.7b%, 26.0k%, .313bip, .253avg, .224iso, 131wrc+
* IF Dejesus (22): 416pa, 8.4b%, 28.1k%, .359bip, .261avg, .120iso, 105wrc+
* OF Pinango (22): 293pa, 10.6b%, 20.5k%, .281bip, .228avg, .116iso, 96wrc+
* OF Brown (22): 59pa, 5.1b%, 33.9k%, .273bip, .170avg, .094iso, 47wrc+

McAdoo a legit good prospect. Dejesus and Pinango just holding on to prospect status. Dejesus slightly better in perforamnce and also imo has bigger natural tools. Brown has been awful since his callup maybe showing why they took so long to promote him, and unfortunately doesn't look like a prospect.

Old:

* OF Schreck (23): 111pa, 12.6%, 23.4k%, .306bip, .258avg, .280iso, 157wrc+
* 1B Nunez (23): 371pa, 10.0b%, 19.7k%, .308bip, .266avg, .145iso, 113wrc+

Schreck crushing AA in a not insignificant sample size. If they wanted to bump him up I wouldn't complain. Nunez still showing just well enough to stay in the prospect picture.

A+

Young:

* OF Arias (20): 40pa, 15.0b%, 12.5k%, .379bip, .324avg, .029iso, 131wrc+
* IF Coffey (20): 345pa, 11.3b%, 24.3k%, .256bip, .223avg, .200iso, 111wrc+

Coffey unfortuantely has been pretty poor since we added him. Still an excellent line for his age tho. What is Arias' injury?

Right Age:

* IF Pinto (21): 46pa, 4.3b%, 8.7k%, .378bip, .372avg, .326iso, 205wrc+
* IF Harry (21): 408pa, 8.1b%, 20.8k%, .247bip, .214avg, .150iso, 92wrc+

Tiny sample for Pinto but he couldn't be doing any better than that. Harry probably shouldn't be on this list but i'll keep the new guy here for now.

Old:

* C Stone (22): 13pa, 0.0b%, 15.4k%, .400bip, .333avg, .083iso, 131wrc+
* OF Bohrofen (22): 438pa, 12.3b%, 24.2k%, .312bip, .247avg, .168iso, 122wrc+
* C Sharp (22): 67pa, 9.0b%, 9.0k%, .220bip, .237avg, .186iso, 114wrc+
* 1B Orf (22): 180pa, 15.6b%, 23.3k%, .267bip, .215avg, .181iso, 110wrc+

Bohrofen will stay here for playoffs i assume but has probably earned a promotion anyways. Nice starts for the two catchers here. Orf just barely good enough to stay here for now.

A

Very young:

* IF Nimmala (18): 317pa, 8.5b%, 31.9k%, .299bip, .229avg, .244iso, 120wrc+

Not a perfect line by any means but an excellent line for his age here.

Young:

* OF Joseph (19): 273pa, 7.3b%, 24.5k%, .281bip, .222avg, .134iso, 92wrc+

I guess Joseph is injured? solid line for his age here.

Right Age:

* OF Mitchell (20): 59pa, 11.9b%, 27.1k%, .353bip, .286avg, .184iso, 129wrc+
* C Duran (20): 301pa, 12.6b%, 15.0k%, .307bip, .256avg, .075iso, 107wrc+
* IF Beltre (20): 418pa, 9.8b%, 18.7k%, .288bip, .238avg, .094iso, 98wrc+
* IF Toman (20): 301pa, 7.6b%, 32.6k%, .325bip, .220avg, .104iso, 82wrc+

Nice start for Mitchell. Duran has just been consistently solid all year and if his C defense is legit than he's definitely a legit prospect imo. Beltre showing some life lately too. Toman I should take off the list.

Old:

* C Parker (21): 74pa, 18.9b%, 20.3k%, .268bip, .250avg, .283iso, 161wrc+
* OF Salinas (21): 21pa, 9.5b%, 9.5k%, .412bip, .362avg, .053iso, 149wrc+
* IF Freethy (21): 48pa, 25.0b%, 20.8k%, .364bip, .250avg, .000iso, 146wrc+
* C Tibbitts (21): 63pa, 11.1b%, 12.7k%, .340bip, .291avg, .055iso, 117wrc+
* 3B Keys (21): 62pa, 9.7b%, 25.8k%, .308bip, .245avg, .132iso, 93wrc+

Nice starts for all of these new guys here. Keys the least impressive but he's picked it up after a tough early start.

Too old:

* OF Micheletti (22): 58pa, 17.2b%, 10.3k%, .378bip, .349avg, .186iso, 196wrc+
* OF Cunningham (23): 74pa, 18.9b%, 23.0k%, .297bip, .231avg, .115iso, 133wrc+

IMO when an overage guy does what Micheletti is doing right out of the draft, the org should just quickly admit they put him at the wrong level and move him up immediately. Cunningham not nearly as impressive but then again at his age i don't know that staying at this level helps at all.
Kelekin - Monday, August 26 2024 @ 04:29 PM EDT (#451897) #
Keys - 102.5 90th% EV, 105.5 Max EV, 47.5 HH%
Mitchell - 96.1 90th% EV, 105.9 Max EV, 16.7 HH%
Parker - 107.3 90th% EV, 109.4 Max EV, 58.8 HH%
Micheletti Jr - 99.3 90th% EV, 106.8 Max EV, 34.2 HH%
Cunningham - 99.3 90th% EV, 103.9 Max EV, 22.6 HH%

Parker has easily been the most impressive, showing lots of power. He won't move up quickly though. Micheletti definitely should go up a level. There's already not enough at-bats to go around in Dunedin. Nick Mitchell is doing about as well as I expected. Really uninspired pick.
uglyone - Monday, August 26 2024 @ 04:43 PM EDT (#451901) #
You really think that about Mitchell? I think he's doing quite well for a 20yr old mid round pick. Hitting well above average with good patience, and showing already that he has some pop with a wood bat. Hasn't even started stealing bases yet which should be a strength.
Kelekin - Monday, August 26 2024 @ 05:06 PM EDT (#451902) #
Well, it's a bit SSS on my end. I think he is doing okay, but watching him, he strikes me right now as being a Kasevich type with slightly more power and speed but potentially worse defense, who really will only have value if he can stick at CF.

He turns 21 next week, so even though he's 20, he's not much younger than most of the draftees.
uglyone - Monday, August 26 2024 @ 05:52 PM EDT (#451907) #
Yeah i get that Kasevich fear but i think so far in his small sample he's showing more than that - more patience, more pop - and his speed gives him an extra tool in the toolbox.

Maybe that disappears soon enough but so far his start looks a good bit better than Kasevich. And while it'a a small sample, Kasevich never showed anything different than he did in his firt 120pa sample in A after being drafted, so that sample may mot be meaningless.
Kelekin - Monday, August 26 2024 @ 07:17 PM EDT (#451913) #
Here's hoping there's more in the tank for sure.
metafour - Tuesday, August 27 2024 @ 09:03 AM EDT (#451933) #
Nick Mitchell looks nothing like Kasevich. He is currently striking out at a 27% rate while hitting for 100 points more ISO than amy season Kasevich has had in the minors.
Kelekin - Tuesday, August 27 2024 @ 03:05 PM EDT (#451961) #
Sorry, didn't mean to be hasty with my assessment, much of it was based off of the reports of Mitchell in college and the comp was probably a bit lazy. I felt at the time it was an uninspiring pick given what was available, and his EV and HH data to date is not very impressive despite the ISO. If he sticks at CF and showcases his speed then it's a fine enough pick.
Kelekin - Tuesday, August 27 2024 @ 04:11 PM EDT (#451965) #
In less than stellar news, it sounds like all of Nolan Perry, Carson Pierce, and Connor Cooke have UCL issues.

Another Nimmala home run.
John Northey - Wednesday, August 28 2024 @ 12:05 AM EDT (#451979) #
Loving Nimmala. The prospect crew is looking good.
  • C: OK, nothing much here. Jacob Sharp age 22 A/A+ 250/336/432
  • 1B: maybe Randy Soto RK age 17 269/485/351 - if he can develop some power it'd be nice. Also a C. Note: Vlad is still just 25, Horwitz 26.
  • 2B: Orelvis Martinez, age 22 AAA/Majors 261/343/521 but PEDs. Will Wagner age 25 AAA/Majors 311/420/434
  • 3B: Charles McAdoo, age 22 A+/AA 300/385/524. Kendry Chirinos 19 rookie 300/402/443
  • SS: Arjun Nimmala, age 18 rk/A 230/326/480, post return to A June 27th - 269/333/579; Leo Jimenez age 23 AAA/Maj 252/376/412 - a good one to cover the between Bo and Nimmala period
  • OF: RJ Schreck age 23 A+/AA 260/396/482 but 308/416/662 as a Jay in AA; Victor Arias age 20 A/A+ 283/390/443; and of course the usual gang of Roden (24 AA/AAA) 281/381/444, Loperfido (25, AAA/Maj 250/325/474); Berroa (25 AAA/Maj 276/376/418), etc.
Not hard to see some very nice hopium there. Also funny to see how a 25 year old can be a prospect, but Vlad is 25 too. Sure shows how special he is.
