NOTES

Scranton scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth to win. Buffalo had six hits, Luis De Los Santos had two. Nick Raposo drove in both runs, one with a solo home run and the other with a ground out.

Jake Bloss started, went four innings. He just gave up one hit, one walk and he struck out three. Mason Fluharty took the loss.

New Hampshire outhit Reading 13-8. But all 13 hits were singles. Michael Turconi was 3-5. Charles McAdoo was 3-4 and was hit by a pitch, Rainer Nunez and Ryan McCarty had two hits each.

Lazaro Estrada did not have "it". He was charged with five runs in three innings. Ian Churchill had an unusual appearance. He gave up just one hit but four runs. He hit three batters and balked and made an error.

Vancouver got the scoring started with four runs in the third inning. Adrian Pinto doubled in two runs followed by a Jace Bohrofen two run home run. Jackson Hornung made it 5-0 in the fourth with a double. In the seventh Cutter Coffey doubled in a couple of runs and Jay Harry hit a two run home run. Adrian Pinto was 3-3 with a walk.

Kendry Rojas threw seven shutout innings, four hits, two walks, three K's.

Gilberto Batista, just acquired in the Danny Jansen trade, made his first start and went two innings with six strikeouts. In between the K's he did gave up three runs, one earned on three hits. Luis Torres followed and had his longest, and best, appearance of the year. In 4.1 shutout innings he struck out seven. Torres threw five different pitches and had ten whiffs.

Yhoangel Aponte hit a two run home run. Edward Duran had three hits, Brock Tibbets two. Sean Keys doubled, walked twice and had two RBI.

In the DSL Andres Arias was 4-4 to bring his average above .300. The 17 year old signed in January of this year. Sann Omosako started and went five shutout innings. He has now thrown 55 innings this season with a 2.24 ERA. In those 55 innings he has walked just four hitters. He has 47 strikeouts so he does not appear to be overpowering.

Is Kendry Rojas the best homegrown pitcher the Jays have that is not injured?

I had Rojas ranked as the third best arm in the system at the beginning of 2024 so I would emphatically say yes. He has mid-90s velo and three pitches he can get whiffs on. And is left-handed.

I believe yesterday was the last DSL game of thr year. Some better hitters this year but no one that immediately stands out as a stud. Rojas (the catcher) was a top signing but didn't look overly great. Arias might be the most intriguing but he missed most of the season.

I’d agree wth that. I’ll say that the game I saw him his stuff was less impressive than I was expecting (he was mostly 92-93). But the command and control were both really advanced for A ball. None of his secondaries really stood out but all three were pretty good. LH’s with 4 pretty good pitches and good command don’t grow on trees.

Thanks for the info, guys.

I'm guessing Rojas' stuff/velo is suffering a bit from the injury/long layoff this year. My looks at him in 2023 were eye-opening. The Jays also commented that he got into some bad habits during thr last offseason, which they've worked to reverse.

Interesting Marc. It was also only one viewing, I may just have caught him on a day without his best stuff. Even without eye popping stuff, the package was very positive.
