As the season moves along who is leading the system in various things? Percentages are 100 PA minimum.

OPS: Horwitz 970 (Adrian Pinto at 1.187 over 61 PA)
Slg%: Orelvis Martinez 523 (Pinto at 737 in those 61 PA)
OBP: Randy Soto 492 (rookie ball)
Avg: Lukes 341, Eddie Michetti 438 (21 PA)
SB: Berroa 30 (8 CS)
RBI & HR: Will Robinson 62 & 18
3B: Arjun Nimmala 6
2B: Horwitz 22
H: Josh Kasevich 111
R: Victor Arias 57 (just 20 in A/A+ hitting 285/392/447 in the OF)
BB: Riley Tirotta 61

Kind of fun to see who is impressing in something. No one really having a 'holy crap' year in any one category though.

Really seems like Jays could use another minor league team. There just a ton of guys at Dunedin needing abs and it's also where rehab assignments go through so for example today's game had no Pinto, no Keys, no Mitchell, and no Toman. This wasn't an issue before because the system has been so weak since they lost Lansing but you can see the loss now IMO.

It's kind of ridiculous that MLB Pipeline updated their Top 30 Jays and Arias isn't on there but Pinango, Dahain Santos, and Josh Rivera (sub-.200 hitter) are. The problem with Pipeline is that they try really hard to reuse writeups and not have to do new ones...

Watched some minor league games this evening. I really like McAdoo's swing and he looks like he might be settling in now. Pinango is a little on the short/stocky side... don't see any projection or more than fringe average pop.

In Dunedin, Parker hit a ball that I thought was a medium fly ball and it sailed out of the park. He has some raw pop. Michelleti Jr. has the LF/DH build and doesn't look overly athletic. Duran looks like he should hit for more power but has Will Wagner-esque (right-handed) set up in that he as a very wide base, doesn't actually stride and is all hands/upper body. He just doesn't clear his hips like Wagner.

Nimmala was smoking balls. 3/5 with a double and a homer. His (crushed) line drive out in the 9th sounded different than most of the other hitters although the Pirates have some intriguing young players.

Cunningham should probably have started up a level. Not much use for a 23yr old to be in A.

Shocked to see that Rafael Ohashi of Mogi Guaçu, Brazil has been released. His stats for April were hall of fame level. Maybe he fell off a little but surely he deserved a longer look. No wonder this team has such a lousy farm system.
pooks137 - Thursday, August 15 2024 @ 08:45 AM EDT (#451399) #
Simply scouting the stat line, Ohashi was walking tons & striking out not many as a still young for A+ minor league reliever after failing as a starter.

Lower minors relievers have never been considered prospects unless they post video game absurd stat lines.

The 165 man organizational roster limit isn't going to let marginal guys hang around as long anymore.

Thanks, Marc.  McAdoo does indeed have a nice swing, and has major oomph.  I wonder if he can take the outside pitch deep to right-centre.  I don't know whether he can field third base well enough, but if so, he might be the big club's third baseman in 2026.

Nimmala has to be the Blue Jays #1 prospect at this point, and it ought not to be close.  He appears to be a smooth-fielding, solid shortstop.  He did struggle at first in Dunedin at age 18, but since he came back in June, he's hitting .260/.341/.610.  I wonder if the club will promote him to Vancouver for the playoffs.

Nimmala is young and not having the pressure of being a top ranked prospect might help. There is plenty of time for him to climb the ranks and he's not close to MLB either way.
Marc Hulet - Thursday, August 15 2024 @ 01:21 PM EDT (#451414) #
My impression of Nimmala, watching him at the start of the year and now - he has a good approach at the plate, has patience and awesome power with a smooth, low-effort swing. Where he struggles is pitch recognition but that makes sense given his lack of pro ABs. And that can come with time/ABs... the Ks are very high but I'm not overly concerned

uglyone - Thursday, August 15 2024 @ 01:39 PM EDT (#451415) #
Since Nimmala came back up from complex league:

* Nimmala: 181pa, 10.5b%, 29.8k%, .315bip, .260avg, .351iso, 160wrc+

Now i don't actually like ignoring "bad parts" of a player's season, but in this case there is a decently good reason why we might want to at least look at the before/after picture here....though i still would never ignore the first part of the year, as lots of other prospects start poorly before adjusting to a level, and we don't go back and discount their early struggles when making comps.

but that's a crazy line for anyone let alone an 18yr old. And that iso there is not just good power but super duper elite power. obviously still too much swing and miss tho.
