Buffalo Bisons

The Buffalo Bisons and Rochester Red Wings played two games on Wednesday due to a rain out on Tuesday with Rochester winning the first game 10-5. Buffalo won the night cap 5-3.

Rochester used a six run fifth inning to seal the first game when Andres Chaparro homered to score Jose Tena, making it 10-5.

Buffalo scored three in the fourth and two in the sixth of the second game of the double header. Josh Kasevich’s three run homer scored Joey Votto and Alan Roden to put the Bisons up 3-1.

The Bisons send Trenton Wallace to the hill in Thursday’s matchup against Rochester. Game time is 6:35PM EDT.

Yohendrick Pinango helped get New Hampshire on the board in the sixth when his single scored Michael Turconi and Alex De Jesus.

Consecutive doubles by RJ Schreck, Yohendrick Pinango, and Cade Doughty sparked New Hampshire’s rally in the eigth after Erie’s Auston Murr’s dinger brought Carlos Mendoza and Gage Workman across home plate.

The Fisher Cats send Lazaro Estrada to the mound for Thursday’s game. He is 1-3 with a 2.81 ERA. Game time is 6:35PM ET.

Vancouver Canadians

The Vancouver Canadian are an interesting team of late running up big scores one game then getting blown out the next.

After Tuesday’s 19-2 victory against the Emeralds, it was Eugene who took the early lead in this one thanks to a Rodolfo Nolasco solo shot that put the Emeralds on the board 1-0 in the second.

Juaron Watts-Brown (0-4) took the loss in this one going four innings while allowing three runs to go with six strikeouts and the home run allowed.

Je'Von Ward was the Canadians lone bright spot with his fourth homer of the year that scored Peyton Williams.

Thursday’s game sees Mississauga, ON native Connor O’Halloran on the mound for the C’s. Game time is 7:05pm.

Dunedin Blue Jays

The Dunedin Blue Jays lost 7-6 in Game One of their doubleheader against the Palm Beach Cardinals on Wednesday and again 7-4 in Game Two.

Dunedin led this game by a score of 5-2 after four and a half innings but the Carindals scored four in their half of the fifth while Dunedin could manage only one run.

Plam Beach scored the only run of the seventh too thanks to a JJ Wetherholy home run that made it 7-6.

In Game Two of this doubleheader, the Cardinals did all the scoring they would need in their half of the second inning with seven runs.

Dunedin had opened the scoring in the bottom half of the when Aaron Parker’s RBI single scored Arjun Nimmala.

Thursday’s game starts at 6:35 PM ET.

Always interesting as the season gets late to see where the minors are at. Thought I'd check how nuts the offense is in AAA now vs the recent past.

AAA: Allowing 5.72 runs/game, scoring 5.48 r/g. Last year 5.32 allowed, 5.76 scored. 2014: 3.52 allowed, 4.26 scored. Wow, things sure changed eh? Same park, same city, same league but 2 more runs per game allowed, 1 1/2 more scored. Looking back it seems 2018/19 was the shift. 2018: 4.28 allowed, 4.15 scored; 2019: 5.27 allowed, 4.91 scored. So what changed? Pace of play: 3 batter minimum, runner on 2nd in extras, mound visit limits. Weird, that shouldn't have made that big a difference I'd have thought. 2021 saw more: larger bases, 2022 saw bigger: pitch clock, ball-strike challenge system.

Seems to me they now need to find ways to cut offense a bit. Most subtle way is to deaden the ball (invisible to fans) - imo they should do something to make it harder to throw it 100+ MPH as well - perhaps something that slows the speed via how the surface of the ball is (the mud used to darken it and allow better grip maybe). That could lead to more variety of pitches being thrown so pure power isn't so vital (thus reducing pitcher injuries long term), plus would make it easier to steal (catcher throws would also be affected), and taking extra bases easier (harder to throw guys out from the OF), and more infield hits (same). Could make the ball heavier (but that has lead to more injuries in studies).

I would guess the increase in offense is due mostly to the fact that there are so many pitching injuries that anyone useful is in MLB rather than AAA.

Slowing the ball down would seem to only cause guys to throw harder in order to achieve the same velocity. The result, more injuries to pitchers.

I dont know how they fix the arm injury problem. Its likely related to velocity and spin being developed in the labs.

My thought is maybe they need an age related speed limit, with perhaps some limits on breaking balls. It actually is kinda what Buck Martinez suggested, that pitchers learn to locate their fastball before being promoted.

If Pearson just focused on putting a 94 mph fastball on the black while in the minors, maybe he would have been healthier (although he had some weird stuff happen to him) and more effective.

Roden's line is starting to look legit good again, he just needs to start adding power now.......and tonight he does that with a HR.

Roden's on a 12 game hitting streak now.
