Damiano Palmegiani smacked his 13th homer of the season among his two hits and drove in three runs, including one on a sacrifice fly. Alan Roden had two hits and Will Robertson walked twice and scored twice. Cam Eden had a hit and two RBI. Paxton Schultz was roughed up for five runs in 3-2/3 innings. Troy Watson took the loss after giving up three runs over two frames.

Nick Fraze gave up just one hit over five shutout innings and struck out four for the win. Hunter Gregory had four Ks over three scoreless stanzas, giving up just one hit and two walks. Josh Kasevich amd Andrés Sosa had a hit and a walk apiece.

Jacob Sharp belted a home run in just his second at-bat with the Blue Jays organization. Sharp was part of the trade that saw Yimi Garcia go to Seattle. Alex Amalfi fanned five over three innings of one-hit ball. Chay Yeager had a game-ending strikeout in a one-hit ninth for the save.

Aaron Parker had an RBI single to drive in a Drew Jemison double and Jean Joseph doubled home a Yeuni Munoz walk to erase a 2-0 deficit. Yhoangel Aponte tripled home the winning run in the 10th and Arjun Nimmala's sacrifice fly scored Apointe. Ryan Watson managed to work in the numbers 1-6 on his pitching line. Roden is having a good July. I like Kacevich he does a lot but no power. His D is supposed to be excellent and he hits for a high Avg.

Our minor leagues have robo umps so the players have a consistent strike zone to learn and understand. This also should help the pitchers. Then in the majors the umps have their own personal strike zone. So hitters and pitchers get confused/frustrated.

Nice to see some new signees and trades starting to get ABs. last day to sign draft picks. Obviously, hope Yesavage signs and wonder what issue is. If he doesn't, he loses all leverage next year as senior so doesn't make sense to me but you never know.

Jim Callis just said he signed!!!

Yesavage signs for slightly over slot. Sigh of relief.

We might still be able to get Gavin Smith with the remainder, then. Glad it's resolved.

The draft and deadline were both handled well. Mark Shapiro does not work with bold statements and actions, unlike his alter ego Mike Shapiro. Instead, there's a subtle assertion of competence. The failure to acquire relief pitchers earlier in the season, when they obviously needed them, might well have been the final straw.

So the 2025 rotation looks like Gausman, Berrios, Bassitt, Rodriguez, Bloss — with Yesavage a possible addition at some point during the season.

I would still like to see one more high-performing arm in the rotation. Probably the front office will look to add back-end depth instead.

Don't forget Manoah should be back in 2025 too. Wouldn't be shocked if Kikuchi is signed up for next year too.

Manoah's best case return is probably late August or September 2025. Not really in the picture next year but I imagine Francis will get a late-2024 audition for 2025.

Mason Fluharty struck out the side today for Buffalo.  It looks like he is ready to contribute at the major league level.  There are a few spots open....

I am still concerned about Yariel Rodriguez. When he has extra rest he pitches well but he doesn't seem to be able to work efficiently with standard rest. It is his first year starting so he might be able to correct it but it is something to watch out for.

His next start will be with extra rest thanks to todays off day.

I have to admit that I can't shake the thought that Rodriguez's best role will be in the pen. That is a subjective thought though. I think you could have worse plans for next year than two starter spots being filled by Francis and Rodriguez as the "bulk reliever" in a tandem rotation. The team has historically shown very little interest in that kind of structure though.

Rodriguez hasn't been a starter in a long time.
He barely pitched last year.
Gausman and Bassitt also like extra rest.
