Nolan Perry had an amazing 23 whiffs in his start against Fort Myers. Dunedin won. Lazaro Estrada also had a very good start for New Hampshire but the lack of supporting offense gave him the loss. Rafael Sanchez was victimized by three errors and Vancouver lost. Buffalo also lost. The four North American minor league teams accumulated 18 hits between them. No hitter had a multi hit game.

NOTES

The Bisons had just five hits. Max McDowell homered. IKF went 1-3 as part of his rehab. Beau Susler started and did OK but he did get the loss.

After showing some life in their bats earlier this week, New Hampshire slipped back to having just two hits on Saturday.

Lazaro Estrada started and through 6.2 innings he had allowed just one hit with three K's. With two outs and his pitch count over 70 he walked a hitter then conceded a home run. He walked another before he was pulled but all in all it was an excellent start.

For Vancouver Rafael Sanchez had no help from his defence. Two errors in the fourth inning led to two unearned runs. Another error in the sixth added another unearned run. In six innings Sanchez gave up one earned run on six hits with four K's.

The C's had six hits.

Nolan Perry started for Dunedin and he dominated. Five innings, eight K's. But it is the statcast data that stands out. He had 23 whiffs on 37 swings. The hitters swung 37 times and missed the ball more than 60% of the time. He had eight whiffs on his FB, nine on the curve and five on the slider.

The Jays scored five runs with five hits. Three of the runs scored reached base through a walk.

It's interesting that they are starting Batista in A ball rather than the complex in Dunedin.  I would have guessed that they would wait until next year for that.

I wonder if Clase will play in the AFL this year.

Jays only have 4 more days to sign First Round Pick Trey Yesavage... deadline is Aug. 1...

Interestingly, Pinango, Paulino, and Clase were all from the 2018 international class. Paulino is apparently injured and on the IL.

If the Blue Jays intend to contend next year, they will need to find a way to sign Yesavage. He might be able to contribute as a SP at some point in 2025, rounding out a rotation of Gausman, Berrios, Bassitt and Rodriguez (assuming no injuries).

You have to wonder what the hold up is. He dropped due to collapsed lung and also because of the $$$$. Have to imagine Jays were ready for this and they understand how important he can be to their 2025 rotation.

Was reviewing the minor league depth chart at C after the Jansen trade.

There’s a real dearth of offensive upside outside of possibly the new acquisition of Jacob Sharp in A+.

The only catcher who looks even mildly interesting is Phil Clarke in Buffalo who is already 26.

It's too bad Zach Britton retired recently. With Jansen being shipped out, he would've rocketed up the depth chart if his defense was at all playable.

Britton wasn't a good catcher unfortunately.
Clarke can't throw runners out.

Sharp and Duran are significantly more interesting. But there's no question our depth is rough right now.

Was really hoping for Messina or Bazzell in the 3rd round but they both were taken.

4M seems to be too much money to hold up for more and risk getting nothing.
Also, he's predicted to rise fast, so why go back to school and delay the lucrative years?

Not going to speculate when we'll know more in a  few days.

yeah i hope we can re-sign Danny.

Would also love Jansen back. He already knows team and pitchers and fits team well and I can't imagine he'd be very expensive. Getting a little concerned about Yesavage. Hopefully they sign him today.
