Dunedin had just three hits but they scored four runs and won the game. Arjun Nimmala homered again. Buffalo, New Hampshire and Vancouver lost. Buffalo had six hits while New Hampshire and Vancouver four each. That totals 17 hits between four teams.

It hasn't been a good start to the second half at the top of the system. The major league club has sucked players out for sure but even so it looks ugly. The Bisons are 4-11 while New Hampshire are 3-10. Vancouver did start the second half with a big winning streak and are at 14-4. Dunedin have been playing the better recently and their record is 10-7. At the bottom of the system the FCL Jays are 10-37, the DSL team is 14-11.

Buffalo 6 Lehigh Valley 8

Vancouver 1 Eugene 5

Tampa 3 Dunedin 4

NOTES

Paolo Espino started for Buffalo and was charged with four runs in four innings. Three other pitchers were used and each of them were scored upon. Erik Swanson was back and he was one of the pitchers who allowed a run, just one in his case.

Buffalo scored six runs with six hits by six different hitters, five of which were doubles.

CJ Van Eyk had what would count as a good start for him. He went six innings and gave up four runs on six hits. But those four runs were enough for Binghamton who held New Hampshire to four hits. Ryan McCarty had two of them.

Connor O'Halloran had a little trouble with his command on Thursday. The Vancouver starter walked five in 4.2 innings and also hit a couple of hitters. He did strikeout seven and only allowed two hits. But he did take the loss. The C's had four hits, two for Dasan Brown.

Dunedin scored four runs with just three hits. They were helped by walks, an error, a hit batter and a wild pitch. Two runs scored from sac flies for some good execution.

Ryan Watson, a recent free agent signing, started and threw 5.2 innings. He struck out seven while allowing three runs.

Arjun Nimmala hit his fifth home run, a solo shot, and added a sac fly.

Nimmala's pop potential has been well-documented here.  He is also 5-0 stealing bases in 39 games and has 4 triples.  The young man can run some too.

Fangraphs has him as a 45 runner now, but it also has Spencer Horwitz as having a 50 hit tool.  I am sure that the Horwitz hit tool rating is way off, and I have no confidence in the Nimmala run tool rating either.

And yes, I agree with the consensus that Nimmala is an excellent prospect now.  Probably the only one the Blue Jays have.

A name that seems to be creeping up on my stats checks is 1B Rainer Nunez. He had been putting up solid but unspectacular numbers at each level until experiencing a major faceplant at AA last year - so bad that he started to look like not much of a prospect at all.

Now he's repeating AA this year, and is probably a year old for the level now, but after a bad April, he's turned it back on and seems to be back at his solid but unspectacular level since early may (i.e. 130-140wrc+ ish).

What makes him interesting despite only good not great numbers is that his numbers are actually quite good across the board - i.e. walks, strikeouts, babip, average all solid - aside from one specific area - his power has been pretty mediocre so far, and probably poor for a 1B. But that's just game power - apparently his raw power is quite impressive, and his actual exit velocities are quite good too, but that just hasn't turned into many xbh so far for him in games.

But if he's back up to putting up good numbers across the board aside from power, but with plenty of power potential still left to untap, he's definitely worth keeping an eye on.

Victor Arias definitely deserves consideration as a legit prospect... he's a little on the small side (listed 5'9'') but he has probably the second-best/most consistent 90+ mph exit velos in the org... and the performance to match.

Yeah agreed Marc - Arias is definitely passing the stats test so far, so that's noce to hear about his exit velos too. The only prospect other than Jimenez to be putting up truly good numbers across the board at an age appropriate level this year.

Of course Nimmala looks like he'll end up there even though he's way young for his level.

Unsurprisingly, Arias' success as he moves up will come down to his ability to start recognizing breaking pitches (40.8% whiff rate). He tends to have wild swings on breaking pitches out of the zone quite regularly, but he crushes pitches in the zone. Tl;dr—hitting the ball very hard when he hits it. He tends to whiff/swing a lot but has an above-average K% rate for his age and level.

Re: Nunez - he has quietly made significant improvements everywhere. He dropped his whiff rate 10%, strikeout rate down 10% - both huge. He is average or above average across AA in all visible metrics. If he unlocks that game power we may have something.

Jennings was scheduled to start tonight, not sure what happened.

Tucker Toman moved to the development list (finally).

I've been watching D-Jays games recently and the pleasant surprises to my untrained eyes have been Feliz and Carter.
