Vancouver Canadians

The Everett Aquasox and the Vancouver Canadians have played two games of their six-game series this week at Rogers Field at Nat Bailey Stadium, with the teams each winning a game so far.

In Wednesday’s game, Vancouver scored runs in the second and fourth with Brennan Orf figuring prominently in offence in both innings. A Jommer Hernandez’s single in the second brought Orf home. Orf hit a triple in the fourth and then Dylan Rock singled him home. Hernandez’s base hit allowed Rock to come home giving the Canadians a 3-0 lead. Hernandez finished the game with three hits and three RBI’s.

The Aquasox scored three in the top half of the seventh inning thanks to Axel Sanchez’s homer with RJ Schreck and Bill Knight on base.

After the Aquasox put down a Canadians rally in the bottom of the seventh, Everett’s Ben Rodden smashed a triple in the eighth inning that couldn’t be snagged by Vancouver’s Dasan Brown and Josh Hood’s sacrifice that followed fly put the ‘Sox in front 4-3.

Hernandez would cap off a two-run rally for the Canadians in the bottom of the eight, putting Vancouver in front 5-4. Jackson Hornung walked, Brennan Orf was hit by a pitch and Dylan Rock was issued a free pass. Estiven Machado’s sac fly would bring home one Canadians run and Hernandez’s hit would push across the other.

The Canadians Ryan Jennings gets the nod in game three of the series today. He’ll face off against the Aquasox southpaw Brandyn Garcia. Game time is 7:05pm at Rogers Field.

Buffalo Bisons

The Buffalo Bisons won their first game of a doubleheader against the Worcester RedSox 11-2 but were blanked in the nightcap 4-0 on Wednesday.

Nathan Lukes paced the Buffalo offence in Game One going 3-3 at the plate with four RBI’s and his fourth home run of the season. Spencer Horowitz, Damiano Palmegiani, and Will Robertson also got into the act in this one with Robertson’s 20th and 21st ribbies of the season giving Buffalo a 6-2 lead after three innings.

Chad Dallas worked five innnigs and had a 9-2 lead by the time he left the game.

The second game of the doubleheader was a makeup game from April 4th with Buffalo as the road team due to a postponement in Worcester on that date.

Worcester used homers from Nick Sogard and Niko Kavadas to stake 3-0 lead by the fourth inning. Chase Sugart scattered three Bison hits over five innings and ran up six strikeouts to get the 4-0 win for the Red Sox. Buffalo was 0-4 with runners in scoring position in this game while Worcester was 0-6.

The Bisons lead this series 2-1 and are back at it again tonight at 6:05 p.m. first pitch from Sahlen Field.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats used a two-hour game delay and strong pitching from Devereaux Harrison to blank the Harrisburg Senators 4-0 on Wednesday night. Harrison’s career-high eight strikeouts and four scoreless innings were a highlight in a game where New Hampshire pitchers had 13 strikeouts against Harrisburg hitters.

Catch Zach Britton paced a Fisher Cats offence that has blasted four home runs in two games. His blast in the bottom of the sixth was his second in three contests.

Adam Macko (0-1, 4.70 ERA), the ninth-ranked Blue Jays prospect, opposes Senators righty Brad Lord (1-1, 2.75 ERA). Game time is 6:10.

Dunedin Blue Jays

The Dunedin Blue Jays lost 5-4 in an 11-inning walk-off, the second of the series, against the Fort Meyers Mighty Mussels on Wednesday.

Fort Meyers struck first thanks to a Rayne Doncon two-RBI double in the bottom of the third but Dunedin matched that effort getting three in the top of the fourth thanks to a Yhoangel Aponte RBI single and Jean Joseph’s go-ahead two-RBI double.

The Mighty Mussels made it 4-3 in the fifth and it wasn’t until the 9th when a Daniel Perez triple and another RBI by Joseph tied the game at 4.

Dunedin couldn’t score in their half of the 10th and Fort Myers did threaten in theirs but first baseman Cristian Feliz unleashed a perfect throw to the plate getting The Mighty Mussels Angel Del Rosario, who attempted to score from second.

Joseph couldn’t score in the 11th for the Blue Jays and when Fort Meyers loaded the bases in the 11th, a Byron Chourio sacrifice fly proved to be the winner pushing that fifth run across.

Game Three of this series continues tonight at 7:05 with a 12-17 Dunedin team that needs to snap a three-game skid.
