NOTES

Glenn Santiago came into Friday with one at bat this season. He was called on to play first base and placed at the bottom of the order. Santiago went 3-3 with a walk, a home run and a double. Josh Kasevich went 4-5, Alan Roden had two hits, Zach Britton two doubles and Garrett Spain homered.

The big comeback saved Michael Dominguez who pitched four innings but was taken deep four times and gave up seven runs.

The C's shut out Hillsboro in game one. Geison Urbaez made the start and threw four innings. He had just one strikeout. Ryan McCarty tripled in both Vancouver runs. He added a single and a stolen base.

The C's had just three hits in game two. McCarty had two more but it was a home run by Nick Goodwin that accounted for both runs. Ryan Jennings started, went five innings, and was charged with four runs. Only one was earned however as Estiven Machado made two errors.

Yhoangel Aponte had a game, a single, two doubles, a triple and two stolen bases. He four of the seven Dunedin hits. The Jays were helped by eight walks and six Tampa errors. The Jays have been beating up on the Yankees which is quite unusual.

Fernando Perez went five innings, allowed two runs and struck out seven.

Starting to see some positive signs in Dunedin, even though it's early. Team was not good last year: last in BA, last in SLG, 8th (out of 10) in OBP. This year: 8th in BA, 3rd in OBP, 4th in SLG.

Yhoangel Aponte and Victor Arias, two 20-year-old outfielders, are second and third in wRC+ so far this year behind two older players (23 and 22).

In last night's game, Aponte's EVs were 99.3, 99.4, 70.4 (a single), 102.8 and 107.7 (He reached on an error).

Edward Duran, a 19-year-old catcher, who hasn't been hitting well yet has a BB-K of 4-4 and his EVs last night were 98.4 and 106.

Victor Arias had the night off but in the past couple of games had EVs of 94.4, 92.3, 108.9, and 106.6

Another 20-year-old OF Yeuni Munoz has struggled with contact issues so far but has the best EV so far among the young Latin players with a 109.7.

Two nights ago, Grant Rogers (old for the league at 22) threw five different pitches and got whiffs on four of them. His cutter was elite. He threw 22 cutters and only one was put in play. On that pitch alone, he got 6 called strikes, 4 fouls, and 5 whiffs (with 6 called balls).

Aponte has 5 SB already.

Where do you find the EV numbers?

Baseball Savant should have them. Maybe not for every game but they have most.

Aponte's early aggression on the basepaths makes him look more like a classic power/speed prospect with contact concerns, but his previous high in stolen bases was 6 over 44 games.

It looks like MLB.com has been highest on Aponte, currently ranking him 25th. They see him as a RF, rather than a CF, which is where he's gotten most of his playing time this year and in past years. I haven't seen anything else on his defensive ability elsewhere.

Manoah still sucking. Swanson and Romano no screaming hell either.

I guess it will take them a while.

Macko had a nice start.
