No Jimenez again. Hasn't played since Saturday.

Davis Schneider with yet another HR. His numbers in AAA with serious power and a fantastic eye are just amazing and he really looks like he should be with the big club now.

While I don't have a lot of regard for his defence, Schneider can actually play a few innings, if needed, at 2B and 3B in addition to LF. He's really the ideal 26th man for this club - he should be up.

Jimenez PH and stayed in at SS today... Minor injury or protecting an asset actively being discussed in talks?

Also, Tanner Morris was 5-for-5 with three doubles and a homer... Consistently launching balls 90+ mph

hypobole pointed out in the other thread that the majors are littered with ex Jay C prospects, many of whom were fringy prospects. I think Sosa has a good chance to be the next in that long line. He can do a bit of everything - controls the strike zone, has some pop, and is decent defensively.

Fully agree on Sosa... Saw him play a fair bit last year and really liked his defense and leadership with the pitchers.

In a move that will surprise no one, Wehler is headed for Vancouver.

On another topic, I believe the Jays usually have a ten day camp for new draftees. This is day ten so players will be assigned to teams likely this and next week. Look for assignments and releases over the next week.

To start the ball rolling Brennan Orf and Bryce Arnold have been assigned to Dunedin.

Orf at 1st, Arnold playing 2nd

Dunedin (10-15) in last 7,5 GB, with the influx of draftees can they repeat last years success

Anyone have anything on 19 yr old catcher Edward Duran? Best batting line in the complex and since his promotion to Dunedin, hasn't missed a beat. Didn't realize there was a PTBNL in the Groshans for Bass/Pop trade, but  Duran was it.

I think Duran is hungry like the wolf

FYI: checking The Baseball Cube it seems everyone has signed from the first 10 rounds.  Gotta be a first I'd think. Just 1 in the 11th hasn't signed yet, 2 in the 12th, 2 in the 14th (inc a Jay), 2 in the 15th, 3 in the 16th, 7 in the 17th (inc a Jay), 9 in the 18th (again a Jay inc), 9 in the 19th, and 11 in the 20th round.  So 3 for the Jays, 46 total didn't sign or 1 1/2 per team.  I prefer the Jays to chase higher talent and risk losing some than take easy to sign guys throughout. Traditionally only guys in the first 3 rounds are likely to make it, with few after that having impact careers (with obvious exceptions).

Cards 10th rounder was going to sign but backed out is what I read. First time only 1 player didn't sign from the first 10 rounds. 2 was the fewest before this year.

I was noticing Duran too. With the ‘22 draft class having such a mediocre start (charitably), what this system could really use is a Moreno/Kirk style prospect emerge. Even one hit from the cheap IFAs or PTBNL pile makes an immense difference to a system.

mendocino, I don't see any chance for the Dunedin team.  The offence has been brutal. The young guys have to be played and none of them have hit. They could do a mass demotion to complex and replace them with college guys, but can't see that happening.
bpoz - Thursday, July 27 2023 @ 10:17 AM EDT (#432697) #
When the season ends we will most likely evaluate prospects. I am really interested in why the 2022 draft class is considered mediocre. Nigel sees them play so his opinion is respected by me.

Roden has been fantastic and possibly stayed in Vancouver a bit too long. Kasevich High Avg, great bb/k and very reliable D. His power is very poor. As a regular he can get on base with singles and walks and drive in RISP. I don't know about him hitting into double plays. He needs to go to AA.

Brock and Fluharty have moved up fast.

I haven't followed our prospects closely lately, but in general I'm a bit surprsied by the negative takes on our prospect group.

from a distance, it seems having prospects as good as Tiedemann (Top 50 with Top 10 potential) and Orelvis (top 100 with Top 10 potential) up top, with pretty solid depth behind them, is a solid enough group.

We drafted HS RHP Nate LaRue in the 25th round 2019. He did not sign and went to Auburn. The Jays just signed him as a C. He pitches, C and OF.
