NOTES

Buffalo headed to the ninth inning down by two runs. Addison Barger had an infield single and with two outs Davis Schneider came to the plate. Boom, tied game. It was his 19th home run. Earlier Rafael Lantigua had hit a grand slam and Stevie Berman a solo shot. In the tenth Tanner Morris singled in the winning run.

Thomas Hatch was the winning pitcher. He pitched the ninth, then struck out the side in the tenth.

For NH Jimmy Robbins was pitching well. After not getting out of the first inning against this same Portland team on Tuesday he cruised through five shutout innings. He walked a batter, Trevor Story, and gave up a single before giving way for Mason Fluharty. Fluharty threw gas on the fire, a walk, a single and two doubles later the Fisher Cats were down 6-0.

Those six runs were more than enough as NH were no hit. They did score two runs, both times the runs came after two walks in the inning.

Vancouver had 12 hits but lost. They used five pitchers and each one gave up runs.

Josh Kasevich reached base five times, two hits and three walks. He had three RBI. Jommer Hernandez was 3-5 with three RBI. Gabriel Martinez and Estiven Machado had two hits each.

Irv Carter has had some control issues this season. That was the case on Sunday. He was taken deep four times and allowed eight runs in four innings.

Edward Duran hit his first home run of the season and added a single. Jeffrey Wehler also had two hits.

I follow all our farm teams. The DSL team may have some excellent players that signed this year and are just 17 years old.

The 5'7"-5'9" players I consider small and have doubts about their power. This is probably unfair. Then you have the 6'+ players who should develop power. The youngest player is Aldo Gaxiola 3B from Mexico. He played 8 games, got a hit in 6 and walked in the other 2. The box score does not say how fast he runs or how strong his arm is.

Hoping to see some of them in the FCL next year.

Davis Schneider is 5'9", bpoz and he has 19 home runs and 18 doubles. Sometimes good things come in small packages.

True about the shorter players. My bad. My end of 2019 Prospect had 5'8" Kirk at #6 mainly due to the bb/K. So Maykel Minoso C in the DSL will get on my prospect list if he succeeds in the FCL when he gets there.

Watched some of the Bisons game.  Barger was in RF. Mets batter hit one over the wall almost identical to Belt's HR Sunday. Barger went back to the wall, jumped and as opposed to Teo, grabbed the ball and pulled it back. It was his 4th pro game in RF.

Looper to short RF Schneider went back on, but it was SS Orelvis who came out of nowhere to make a nice running catch.  In the 5th inning, Orelvis jumped back from a 3-2 inside FB that was called strike 3. He challenged, but half the ball was in the strike zone. That was the Bisons 4th challenge, 3 of which they got wrong ,so had to play the rest of the game without one. By the 9th, the Mets were out of challenges as well.

Schneider made one play with any degree of difficulty, a slow roller to second. His throw pulled 1B Talley off the bag. Score 1 for Nigel.

For the record, Schneider has been one of my favourite prospects since he was drafted:). I think he can hit at the MLB level.

The DSL team murdered the ball again today. 10 runs on 16 hits. 7 of the 9 hitters in the lineup today are hitting above .280

Daniel Perez hit his 4th dinger. Now at 292/420/462. 20BB/22K. 6'2" 1B from Cuba. He is older that most (21) so who knows, but seems like someone to keep an eye on.

Horwitz made BA’s weekly top 20 prospect hot sheet:

“6. Spencer Horwitz, 1B, Blue Jays
Team: Triple-A Buffalo (International)
Age: 25

Why He’s Here: .536/.567/1.000 (15-for-28), 6 R, 2 2B, 1 3B, 3 HR, 10 RBIs, 2 BB, 5 SO, 2-for-2 SB

The Scoop: Of the six games that Horwitz played last week he collected multi-hit games in five of them, including a five-hit and a four-hit game. His signature game came on Tuesday, when Horwitz went 5-for-6 with a stolen base. With a strong combination of contact, approach and power, Horwitz is a bat-first corner profile who will have to hit to earn a full-time role. (GP)”

I'm always intrigued by low minor league players I've never heard of. Add to the list, Aneudi Escanio, who is currently cranking out extra base hits for the Jays' Dominican League team like there's no tomorrow. Apparently he signed for $10k in 2022.
