Spencer Horwitz hits for average and gets on base but the power has been in short supply. On Thursday he went deep twice, but Buffalo coughed up the lead twice and lost. No such worries in New Hampshire where Sem Robberse was excellent. And the hitters were pretty good too. Similarly for Vancouver where Devereaux Harrison was back in top form. Dunedin also had good pitching and they made it three wins.

Buffalo 6 Syracuse 8

New Hampshire 7 Portland 4

Vancouver 7 Spokane 3

Lakeland 1 Dunedin 5

FCL Blue Jays 2 FCL Phillies 10

Third Star - Sem Robberse

Second Star - Kekai Rios

NOTES

It started well for Buffalo. Addison Barger led off the game with a home run. Spencer Horwitz added his own homer in the first and tacked on a second one in the fifth. Meanwhile Bowden Francis struck out six in 3.1 innings. Hayden Juenger came on in relief and it didn't go well. He allowed four runs in two thirds of an inning.

Heading to the ninth the Bisons were down 6-3. Three singles loaded the bases, then two walks and a double play let Buffalo tie the game. On to the bottom of the ninth where Matt Peacock surrendered a two run home run. Barger and Horwitz had two hits each. Orelvis had the night off.

Sem Robberse shutout Portland through 5.2 innings, five hits, one walk and five K's. Sem got eight groundballs to two fly balls.

New Hampshire had 13 hits, every starter had one. Leo Jimenez and Andres Sosa had three each. Jimenez led off the game with a triple but in true Blue Jay fashion was stranded there. Alan Roden was 1-3 and walked twice.

For Vancouver, Kekai Rios hit a three run home run in the second inning to get the C's on the board. That was plenty for Devereaux Harrison who threw five shutout innings. The C's added four more in the eighth. Every starter had a hit for the C's. Garrett Spain and Ryan McCarty each had two hits. Both of McCarty's were doubles and he is hitting .462 in his brief high A career so far.

Dunedin had good pitching. Three pitchers combined on a three hitter. Lazaro Estrada struck out seven in three innings. He had 12 swings and misses. He was followed by Davis Feldman who had 18 whiffs in four innings, most of them with his changeup.

Dunedin had six hits, all singles.

I really don't know how the FSL Dunedin team is being used for development.

We have no young players dominating but they do seem to be making progress. Age 19/20.

We have older NDFAs pitchers that are getting their feet wet. I suppose the Jays see something in them. At age 24 Wehler is dominating.

I think today or Sat the signed draft picks will be officially reporting to Dunedin and will be assigned within 2 weeks.

FSL Dunedin has/will have a huge amount of players possibly.

Horwitz is basically a young Brandon Belt.

Tiedemann rehab starting in rookie ball today.

Belt played just 1.5 years in the minors. He hit 23 HR and stole 22 bases in his first year. He was in the majors to stay part way thru his second at age 23.

Horwitz is 25. He has hit 12 HR in each of the last 2 years.

Being LH 1B doesn't make them the same.

Peyton Williams is on rehab in the FCL today too.

With his 2 homers against a RHP last night, Horwitz is now hitting .335/.472/.505 against RHP, but a very homely line against LHP. It was the same last year. At his age, a platoon role is likely to be his best career outcome.

Two smooth innings for Ricky T today.

At least Horwitz is on the right (left) side of the platoon to maximize his playing time. And the new rules will make it somewhat harder for opposing managers to deploy LOOGY relievers to neutralize him.

Goodbye Sammy Hernandez. It was tricky with Sammy and Jommer Hernandez both catching in the lower minors.

Sammy is just 19 and I assume its tough for a 19 year old to be traded. Good luck to him.

Not just Tiedemann, but Brandon Barriera starts for Dunedin tonight.

Platoons are great. No platoon is a wasted bench.

That's why Homer hit for Strawberry.

And Ryu starting for the Bisons.

Horwitz might not be Belt. Maybe he's Overbay. Unless he's traded, I hope he's given more opportunities.

Ryu goes 6 innings and gives up 2 runs on 3 hits (2 homers included) and 1 walk with 5 strikeouts.  Chad Green gets an outing tomorrow.  Presumably Ryu will get a shot at the major league rotation next week.

Barriera went 3 perfect innings also.  Very good night on the pitching front.
