Vancouver Canadians
The Vancouver Canadians entered Wednesday’s game at a league-best 52-32. They are 14-5 in the second half of the season after winning the first-half Northwest League title in June.
In Wednesday’s game against the Spokane Chiefs though they lost 7-6. Each team now has a win after the first two games of the series.
The Toronto Blue Jays #9 prospect Adam Macko had a rough start to the game as he allowed the first four batters to reach base on two walks, a hit by a pitch and a bases-loaded walk to start the scoring. Spokane’s Zach Kokoska rapped a two-RBI single later in the inning and that made e it 3-0. Macko, fortunately, managed to hold the Chiefs in check after that.
The Canadians took the lead when they scored five runs in the fifth but Spokane made it 5-5 in the bottom of the inning. Michael Turconi made it 6-5 in the seventh with a solo shot but Spokane got a two-run homer of its own thanks to Zach Kokoska. The scored stayed 7-6 the rest of the way and the Chiefs got the win.
Today’s game sees Kevin Miranda on the hill for Vancouver against #9 Rockies prospect Jaden Hill. First pitch at 6:35 p.m.
Buffalo Bisons
The Buffalo Bisons were able to hold off the Syracuse Mets on Wednesday scoring a run in their half of the 9th to win the game. They have two straight wins to start this series.
The Bisons scored in the top of the 2nd to get the game’s first run. Cameron Eden reached first on a fielder’s choice throw allowing Rafael Lantigua to cross home plate easily. Zach Thompson gave Buffalo all he could with six innings allowing only one run. It was his longest start of the season and he had a no-hitter through five innings.
Today, Buffalo takes on Syracuse today at 6:35 p.m. local time and they are looking to win three straight games.
New Hampshire Fisher Cats
The New Hampshire Fisher Cats were blanked 4-0 by the Portland Sea Dogs at Hadlock Field Wednesday. An anemic offence that saw them strand 12 on the bags and go 0-8 with runners in scoring position was likely the big reason for their demise.
It was all smooth-flowing java as Portland’s Isaac Coffey pitched five shutout innings and struck out a league-high 11 in his fifth outing. He is 4-0.
Sad as it was to see Alan Roden leave the Vancouver Canadians, he was one of the lone bright spots for the Fisher Cats collecting his first hit in his first at-bat at the Double-A level. He went 2-for-4 with two singles.
Today RHP Sem Robberse (2-5, 4.15 ERA) will get the start for New Hampshire against RHP Sterling Sharp (2-2, 4.91 ERA) for Portland. Game time is 12:05pm local time./p>
Dunedin Blue Jays
The Dunedin Blue Jays won in exciting fashion scoring five runs in the bottom of the 10th inning to win 9-8 over the Lakeland Flying Tigers.
The Tigers had scored 4 in the top of the 10th inning only to have the Blue Jays best them with five of their own.
There was no scoring until the fifth inning of this one when Lakeland made it 1-0. You don’t need to get your calculator to realize that 16 more runs were scored in just five innings in this after Seth Stephenson scored to make it 1-0 for the Tigers.
In today’s game Lazaro Estrada heads to the hill for Dunedin. Estrada is 1-1 with a 3.25 ERA and 66 strikeouts. Game time is 6:35 local time.
