Notes

Just like last Wednesday’s summary, Garrett Spain is our first star again as he hit a dramatic two-run home run in the bottom of the 9th to give the Canadians a come-from-behind 5-4 win. The Canadians had been battling the Hillsboro Hops all game after the Hops had worked over C’s starter Adam Macko for three runs in the 2nd Inning. The Canadians got two in the 4th and one in the 6th to tie the game at three before the Hops Kevin Graham broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the eighth with a solo shot for his first High-A home run.

Buffalo dropped their second straight game to the Syracuse Mets 5-3 on Wednesday night at Sahlen Field. We had to do a double take when we saw that it was former Major Leaguer Luke Voit, who just signed a deal with the parent club New York Mets and was assigned to Syracuse on June 12th, get the ball rolling when he blasted a two-run homer in the top of the first. Buffalo hit back with one run in the bottom of the inning. When the teams battled back and forth with runs over the next 6 innings, the Bisons found themselves unable to tally a tying run despite getting to 5-3 in the eight inning.

The Dunedin Blue Jays survived a five-run six inning at the hands of the Lakeland Flying Tigers to win 6-5 Wednesday night. Dunedin needed three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to take the lead back from the Tigers after the Blue Jays got two in the bottom of the 2nd to open the scoring.

New Hampshire and Akron was postponed due to rain in the area.

The Orelvis method of progressing is becoming common. Terrible April followed by much improved results starting somewhere in May.

At Vancouver G Spain, Dasan Brown and E Machedo. I expected more from Dasan Brown based on his good results in Vancouver last year. I really hoped E Machado would not struggle. But he struggled and was put on the development list for 2 weeks and came back strong. I don't know what to think about G Spain. He is succeeding but what are his tools? Brown and Machado have excellent tools. D, speed and arm.

Love that some of the bullpen guys almost beat him to home plate.

You're right Gerry, that is a great call!

That was fun.

Leo Jimenez hit his 4th home run for the Fisher Cats in the opener today.  He's 3-4 on the afternoon (they're only in the 5th inning) and has 4 doubles and 3 homers in June so far after a slow start power-wise to the year.

It's probably fair to say that places like Buffalo, New Hampshire, and Vancouver are not generally great places to play baseball in April. Then dump that on some of these young guys who've lived their lives in much warmer climates, and there's some physical and mental challenges to adapt to.
