The bottom two teams won. Vancouver had good pitching from Devereaux Harrison and good hitting from Michael Turconi, and others. Dunedin had good pitching from Ryan Jennings and good hitting from Roque Salinas. Casey Lawrence had a bad day for Buffalo. Adam Kloffenstein pitched well but the bullpen couldn't hold the lead.

And the FCL starts today.

NOTES

Casey Lawrence got bombed today, ten hits, eight runs in 3.2 innings. Yosver Zulueta got four outs while allowing two hits. Mitch White came out of the bullpen and pitched a 1-2-3 sixth.

Offensively Luis De Los Santos hit his first AAA home run of the season. LJ Talley had three hits, Otto Lopez two.

New Hampshire took a 4-0 lead in the third inning. Damiano Palmegiani drove in three runs with two hits. Adam Kloffenstein cruised through five innings, Reading had just two hits off him. But in the sixth Reading tripled their hits to six and those four sixth inning hits gave them two runs. Luis Quinones gave up a two run home run in the seventh to tie the game. Then in the ninth Troy Watson walked a pair and a double let Reading to ahead. Adrian Hernandez relieved Watson and walked a pair which led to the sixth run scoring. It was a bad day for the bullpen.

Vancouver got off to a fast start. Alex De Jesus tripled in two runs in the first inning and he was followed by Gabriel Martinez who homered. Michael Turconi singled and scored the fifth run. Then he added a sac fly to make it 6-0 in the fourth. Turconi singled again in the seventh to drive in the seventh run. He finished the day 3-3. Alan Roden, Josh Kasevich and Gabriel Martinez each had two hits.

Devereaux Harrison went six innings with one run allowed on four hits.

Roque Salinas singled in a run in the fist inning for Dunedin. He tripled in another in the sixth and later scored on a balk. He drove in his third of the day with a ground out in the ninth. The D Jays had just five hits to score six runs. They also had eight walks.

Ryan Jennings went five shutout innings with four K's. Irv Carter came out of the bullpen to add three shutout innings with three K's. Clearwater had just one hit off him.

The FCL snuck up on us! Glad to see both the FCL and DSL starting so we can look forward to some Monday minor league games. Will be good to see the debuts of Nolan Perry and Enmanuel Bonilla.

Good to see a nice clean appearance from Irv Carter. We know the potential is there, just has to put it all together.

Some other positives on the farm that may be unnoticed.

Zulueta does not give up HRs.

Phil Clarke is on the same time table of improvement as Orelvis. May 6th Avg .057 with v good bb/k. His next game May 9th 2 hits practically doubled his Avg. If his D is good his value could become Riley Adams/McGuire.

Quinnoes has improved his walks. He still has the low hits and high Ks.

IMO D Harrison is now an interesting prospect because of his success as a SP.

There is a provisional FCL roster out. It has seven catchers listed and just four infielders. There are also four hitting coaches. Also no Enmenuel Bonilla. Expect some shakeout over the next week or so.

I imagine Huntzinger and Mesia will likely mix in at 1B/DH. The former isn't going to catch much with higher ceiling players around and Mesia was terrible defensively last year (I saw him catch a couple times and he was brutal) and has twice failed to handle A-ball from an offensive stand point.

Vasquez is the one to watch. Very Moreno-like early on and athletic/versatile. Meza is the bonus baby.

I noticed Barreira didn't pitch this past week - do we have any insights as to the reason?

Paxton Schultz has been promoted to Buffalo. Buffalo are short Bowden Francis, Drew Hutchison and now Zach Thompson, at least for a few days. Wes Parsons is one addition, Schultz is a second.

Leo Jimenez hit his 6th double of the season in the first inning tonight.  He's hitting .290; he will take a walk and is now showing a little bit of pop.  He's 4-0 stealing bases in 27 games.  He just turned 22 and is in double A, so may have turned a corner and be a legitimate prospect with a balance of offensive skills and the ability to play shortstop pretty well.
