This is what I noted from yesterday's games.
Yusei Kikuchi got his five innings in with a little wildness. Francis, Spraker, Thornton and Gage completed the shutout.
Spencer Horwitz hit a two run home run in the first inning. Stevie Berman added an RBI single in the same inning. Otto Lopez, Cullen Large and Nate Lukes had two hits each.
Addison Barger homered in the first inning, a two run shot. That was his only hit, he also struck out twice. Rafael Lantigua was 3-4 with three runs scored. John Aiello had two hits and two RBI.
Paxton Schultz had eleven baserunners in 4.1 innings, nine hits and two walks. It didn't get better after he left, Portland had 18 hits total. Hayden Juenger has been giving up a lot of home runs recently. He didn't on Friday but he did have four hits allowed in one inning.
Riley Tirotta homered in the fourth inning, a two run shot, to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 lead. Damiano Palmegiani added a two run shot of his own in the seventh. Tirotta had two hits as did Dasan Brown, making his high A debut. Leo Jimenez, Miguel Hiraldo and Anthony Morales also had two hit nights. Steward Berroa walked four times and stole three bases, including a steal of home in the eighth.
Trenton Wallace had a tricky second inning where he walked a hitter, gave up a couple of singles and let two runs score, one on a wild pitch. But otherwise he was strong. He ended up pitching 3.2 innings before hitting the 80 pitch limit. Garrett Farmer threw 3.1 shutout innings in relief to pick up his fourth win.
Matt Svanson started and threw four shutout innings. The other three pitchers gave up a run each.
The Jays had only four hits. At least two of the new guys, JC Masson and Victor Mesia each picked up a hit.
