Buffalo and New Hampshire lost and Dunedin won in a rain-shortened affair. The real 4th of July fireworks came in the Pacific Northwest as Vancouver won a wild one in Everett.
Syracuse 4 Buffalo 3
Derek Holland pitched the first two innings and gave up a two-run home run to former Blue Jay Gosuke Katoh in the first. Jimi Garcia struck out two in his inning of work against the S-Mets. Kyle Johnston gave up a run in the fifth in his two-inning stint to take the loss. Anthony Kay also allowed a run in his two innings. Jeremy Beasley and Tayler Saucedo put up zeros in the eighth and ninth.
Nathan Lukes had two doubles and two RBI to highlight a three-hit day and stole his 16th base of the year. Logan Warmoth singled twice while Danny Jansen and Jordan Groshans singled and walked. Jansen was pulled after two at-bats. Chavez Young walked twice.
Hartford 10 New Hampshire 5
The Rockies affiliated roughed up Adam Kloffenstein for five runs in the first inning and scored six times against him in four innings. He served up a home run among seven hits and two walks but struck out six. Cre Finfrock coughed up two more runs in the fifth and Marcus Reyes allowed another in 2-2/3 innings. Sean Rackoski gave up the other run before getting the final four outs.
Zac Cook homered to break up the shutout bid in the fourth inning. The other four runs were driven in by Trevor Schwecke who doubled home a run in the sixth before hitting a three-run dinger in eighth. Luis De Los Santos had a hit and a walk and Spencer Horwitz walked twice before being pinch-run for by Davis Schneider who would score on Schwecke's three-run blast. Orelvis Martinez was 1-for-4 with his 11th double of the year.
Vancouver 8 Everett 4
The C's took advantage of the cozy confines of Everett Memorial Stadium with Bellevue, Washington native Addison Barger—having went to AquaSox games as a kid—hitting a two-run homer to drive in a leadoff Steward Berroa triple. Damiano Palmegiani then added a solo blast to cap off the first inning. Garrett Spain went deep again for a solo blast in the fifth. However, no lead is safe in the Northwest League's version of Fenway Park as the Mariners affiliate roared back with four runs in the fifth to tie it. Glenn Santiago untied with an RBI single in the seventh before P.K. Morris blasted a two-run dinger in the eighth. A Santiago base and error scored another in the ninth Santiago was one of three C's hit to have two-hit nights along with Palmegiani and Spain. Palmegiani was on base three times with a double and a hit by pitch while Barger drew a walk to get aboard twice. Anthony Morales had a hit and a walk after taking over for Zach Britton behind the plate. Britton was ejected after striking out in the top of the first. Miguel Hiraldo had a double and stole base number 18.
Nick Frasso had a hell of a debut for the C's. He struck out eight in a row by whiffing the side in the second and third inning. A two-out walk in the fourth was all the AquaSox could muster. Noelvi Marte was the only one to make contact and the best he could do was pop out twice to first. Frasso also struck out rehabbing Mariners outfielder Kyle Lewis twice. Clearly Everett was thrilled when Frasso exited the game as they scored four times off Sean Wymer in the fourth on two hits and three walks. Juan Nuñez stranded a runner for Wymer and walked just one batter while whiffing four in 2-1/3 innings for the win. Jol Concepcion struck out four and plunked one over two otherwise spotless innings over the final two frames for the save.
Dunedin 3 Clearwater 1 (7 Innings - Completed due to Wet Grounds)
A fielder's choice by Adriel Sotolongo and an RBI groundout by Roque Salinas in the first inning erased a 1-0 lead by the Phillies affiliate. Salinas singled home an insurance marker in the third. Estiven Machado had two hits and scored twice. Angel Del Rosario had a hit and a walk and swiped his 16th base. Rainer Nuñez had a hit and was hit by a pitch. Dasan Brown drew a walk.
Matt Svanson surrendered a run on four hits and a walk over five innings and struck out six for the win. Geison Urbaez struck out the final two batters of the game and gave up just one hit over two perfect frames for the save.
