Yesterday Hugo Cardona and Davis Schneider pitched for the C's. Today they picked up five hits between them in a Vancouver win. Will Robertson was the RBI man for New Hampshire as they also won. Buffalo and Dunedin lost.

Buffalo 2 Lehigh Valley 5

Somerset 1 New Hampshire 5

Eugene 3 Vancouver 6

Dunedin 0 Jupiter 4

This is what I noted from yesterday's games.

The Bisons used six pitchers. One was Nate Pearson who left injured having thrown two pitches. Nick Allgeyer came out of the bullpen and only went two innings, not sure why. Adrian Hernandez threw an inning but gave up a home run. In 20 AAA innings, Hernandez has allowed just nine hits. But three of those nine were home runs. When he misses he is very hittable.

Just five hits for the Bisons, Cullen Large with two including an RBI triple.

Luis Quinones seems to be rounding into form. He went four shutout innings, two hits and six K's. He did walk four, as he usually does. Andrew Bash followed and pitched the last five innings. He allowed an unearned run.

Will Robertson singled in two runs in the first inning. He also grounded out in the third to drive in his third run. Cam Eden drove in two with an eighth inning single. Spencer Horwitz was 1-1 with three walks and two runs scored. His hot June continues.

The C's went toe to toe with a strong Eugene offense with 12 hits. Two guys who pitched yesterday had five of them. Hugo Cardona went 3-4 out of the nine hole and drove in three runs. Davis Schneider was 2-3 with an RBI. Addison Barger had the only extra base hit, a double. Barger has been the C's best hitter but he has also had a high strikeout rate. For April and May he struck out in about a third of his at bats. In June that rate is down to 20%. He has also walked nearly as much in June as he did in the other two months combined. Those are positive signs for Barger.

Alejandro Melean started and went four innings, allowing two runs.

The D Jays had only two hits, and made two errors so not a memorable day.

Nick Frasso pitched well, four shutout innings with five K's.

Three Stars

Third Star - Davis Schneider

Second Star - Hugo Cardona

First Star - Will Robertson

BA's Prospect Hot Sheet for the week ending June 20 is up. No Jays on the 20-prospect (plus one helium prospect) list this week. Lots of other AL East prospects on it, though:

1. Curtis Mead, 3B, Rays
5. Eddinson Paulino, OF, Red Sox
6. Everson Pereira, OF, Yankees
7. Niko Kavadas, 1B, Red Sox
11. Blaze Jordan, 1B/3B, Red Sox
18. Carson Williams, SS, Rays
20. Heston Kjerstad, OF, Orioles

Helium: Angel Benitez, RHP, Yankees

It's not going to get any easier over the next decade for the Jays.

I wouldn't get too excited about who's hot.  Niko Kavadas is a 23 year old first baseman in low A ball who's been hot recently.  The longer view is more important and particularly considering age and developmental level.

I don't know if Ricky Tiedemann has made a Prospect Hot Sheet, but I doubt that there are more than 5 prospects in baseball who have taken a bigger step forward this year, and boy do the Jays need a young pitcher (or three) to develop.

Some prospects on the weekly Hot Sheet are just lower-ranked prospects who've had a good week. Others (like 50FV Curtis Mead) are talented players who are moving up the ranks. Basically, it's a convenient snapshot of 21 players who have recently been doing very well in the minors.

It's not meant to encapsulate a team's overall farm system strength, but it is more data to consider when looking to the future of that team's system.

The Tiedemann draft pick in July 2021 did get some praise from some commentators at the time, but not from anyone on Batter's Box (I don't think).

Certainly not any praise from me- a big nothing either way because I know so little about juco pitchers.  Wasn't crazy about Nate Pearson because of his build, but that turned out to be the least of his issues.

Tiedemann made great progress using the Dunedin equipment and the off season development camps. Many prospects have made improvements. Also weight gain. BA said Tiedemann's FB was low 90s and touches 94. His FB is about 97 now I think. He may have also improved his SL and CH. He is still not 20 years old.

On Pearson, has there been any update on his shoulder?
