Buffalo split a doubleheader and New Hampshire were winners on Wednesday. Vancouver and Dunedin both lost to give the farm system a losing record.
Durham 5 Buffalo 1 (Game 1 - 7 Innings)
The Rays affiliate beat up on Bowden Francis for all five runs with a home run, a triple and six singles to go along with three walks in 4-1/3 innings. Francis did strike seven. Brandon Eisert pitched two shutout frames with two strikeouts and Joe Biagini whiffed one in the seventh.
Otto Lopez homered in the third inning for the Herd's only run. Gabriel Moreno had the other base hit. Nick Podkul walked. Jordan Groshans and Samad Taylor were 0-for-3.
Buffalo 5 Durham 0 (Game 2 - 7 Innings)
RBI singles by L.J. Talley in the first, an RBI knock by Jordan Groshans and a Samad Taylor sacrifice fly in the third and a Groshans sacrifice fly and Talley RBI knock in the fifth helped the Herd bounce back agains the Bulls. Groshans, Talley and Eric Stamets all had two-hit games. Nathan Lukes singled and stole two bases and Logan Warmoth singled and walked. Talley is hitting .321 while Lukes and Warmoth are hitting .318 and .306 respectively. Cullen Large had a double.
Jeremy Beasley gave up just two hits and a walk and struck out five over four shutout frames. Adrian Hernández struck out three of the six men he faced over two perfect innings to get the win. Kyle Johnston walked one and struck out one to wrap things up in the seventh.
New Hampshire 3 Somerset 1
Luis De Los Santos singled home the winning run in the eighth inning to help the Fisher Cats knock off the Yankees affiliate. De Los Santos and Spencer Horwitz pulled off a double steal with Horwitz scoring the insurance run. Tanner Morris had an infield single in the first inning, moved to third on an Orelvis Martinez base knock and scored on a wild pitch. Martinez was also hit by a pitch. Phil Clarke and Ryan Gold had the other New Hampshire hits.
Nick Fraze pitched 5-2/3 innings of one-run ball on three hits and a walk. He struck out three and got seven outs on the ground. Sean Mellen stranded a runner and pitched 1-1/3 shutout frames with a walk and a strikeout for the win. Parker Caracci plunked a batter but struck one out in a shutout eighth and Jake Elliott got the save with two punchouts in a perfect ninth.
Everett 8 Vancouver 4
The Mariners affiliate put up a converted touchdown over the first three innings to knock off the C's. Hunter Gregory was humbled for seven runs on seven hits—including a three-run homer—and three walks while striking out three frames. Abdiel Mendoza worked around two hits and two walks and struck out six in three shutout innings. Will McAffer got two outs but walked the bases loaded before Thomas Ruwe bailed him out. Ruwe gave up a run over 2-1/3 innings but struck out three.
Run-scoring doubles by Zach Britton and Leo Jiménez got Vancouver on the board in the third and a Jiménez sac fly capped off a two-run fifth. Britton and Andrés Sosa both had two hits, including a double. P.K. Morris and Riley Tirotta also doubled. Addison Barger and Miguel Hiraldo went 0-for-4 but Barger stole a base. Trevor Schwecke went 0-for-1 and saw his 13-game hitting streak come to an end. Hugo Cardona took over for Schwecke in right field in the third.
Clearwater 12 Dunedin 9
The D-Jays fought back from a 3-0 hole but the Phillies affiliate pulled away in the latter stages for the win. Gabriel Martinez hit a two-run home run that tied it in the third. Martinez had two hits as did Damiano Palmegiani, Adriel Sotolongo and José Ferrer. Estiven Machado had three hits, including two RBI singles. Teoscar Hernández had a double and a sacrifice fly in his four trips to the dish. Adrian Pinto tripled, walked and was hit by a pitch.
Jonatan Bernal was jolted for six runs (four earned) over 4-2/3 innings on seven hits (including a homer) and three walks but struck out four. Wilgenis Alvarado allowed two Bernal runners to score and three of his own but struck out five in 3-1/3 innings. Julian Valdez gave up three more runs in his inning of work.
