This is what I noted from yesterday's games.
Thomas Hatch had not pitched well in his first two starts so Sunday's start was a nice surprise. Hatch went six shutout innings allowing just two hits and three walks. He struck out four, after having just one K combined through his first two starts.
Facing Manny Banuelos, the Bisons took a 2-0 lead on a sac fly and a doubles by Nathan Lukes. In total Buffalo scored four runs on four hits. The last two runs came from a double by Nick Podkul. Samad Taylor was 1-3 with a walk but he scored two runs and stole third base twice.
The Fisher Cats took a 4-0 lead but lost on a ninth inning walk off. Haydon Juenger started and went four innings facing the minimum. He allowed one hit but picked the runner off. The Jays are being careful with his innings, the four inning stint was his longest of the season.
New Hampshire scored four runs on three hits. Orelvis homered in the third inning. The pitcher threw an off speed pitch and Orelvis slowed his swing to make contact. It looked like a slow swing and you would expect a fly ball. But the ball carried not just for a home run but it cleared the Altoona bleachers which runs about ten rows deep. There are areas where he needs to improve but that hitting was impressive.
Through five innings the C's had three hits, all of them from Addison Barger. He ended at 3-5 but he did strikeout twice. The C's finished with six hits.
Trent Palmer went four innings, 85 pitches. He struck out seven while giving up two runs. The C's used three bullpen pitchers, all of whom were scored on.
Dunedin entered the bottom of the ninth trailing 2-1. They were trailing just by one because Amell Brazoban threw out a runner at home in the top of the inning. In the bottom of the inning Dasan Brown had an infield single, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a ground rule double by Angel Del Rosario. He scored the winning run when Adriel Sotolongo singled. Del Rosario also scored the Jays first run when he stole home in the first inning. Despite his big hit in this game he is only hitting .119, but he has ten steals already.
Rafael Ohashi started and gave up one run on four hits in 4.2 innings. He had seven K's. Ohashi's fastball averaged 90.2 mph, he used it 60% of the time. He used the slider and change 20% of the time each. Slider came in at 79.7 mph, the change 81.8.
