Buffalo swept a doubleheader while New Hampshire pulled out an extra-inning win. Dunedin took the only loss Wednesday. Vancouver's game against Eugene was rained out. They will play two at Nat Bailey Stadium Friday afternoon.
Buffalo 2 Scranton/Wilkes-Barre 1 (Game 1 - 7 Innings)
The Bisons were down 1-0 before a two-run double by Cullen Large in the fifth gave them the win over the Yankees affiliate. That doubled scored a Logan Warmoth hit by pitch and a Vinny Capra walk. Of note, Warmoth took one for the team when the count was full. He did hear ball four once as well. Gabriel Moreno had a double while Josh Fuentes and L.J. Talley had the other hits. Mallex Smith drew a walk but Samad Taylor was 0-for-3, striking out twice.
Casey Lawrence served up a solo homer to Miguel Andujar but lasted 5-1/3 innings, giving up two hits and two walks while striking out seven. He induced two double play balls among his six outs on the ground. Andrew Vasquez retired the final five hitters in a row, striking out Blue Jays spring training hopeful Greg Bird to end it.
Buffalo 6 Scranton Wilkes-Barre 5 (Game 2- 8 Innings)
The Herd completed the two-game sweep in a back-and-forth affair. Buffalo rallied from a 5-4 deficit to walk it off in the eighth. Nathan Lukes—who had an RBI single among two hits and a walk—tied the game with a sacrifice fly to score pinch-runner Logan Warmoth. Vinny Capra then walked it off by singling home a walk by Eric Stamets. Stevie Berman had an RBI double and L.J. Talley brought in a run with a groundout in the seventh to send the game into the extra inning. Capra and Mallex Smith also joined Lukes in the two-hit club with Capra taking one for the team. Stamets was on base three times with two walks and a plunk and stole a base. Samad Taylor pinch-ran, swiped a bag and scored the tying run from second base on Talley's seventh inning grouder. Talley had a hit and a walk. Cullen Large and Kellin Deglan also had base knocks.
Andrew Bash gave up a three-run home run in the third among five hits, walking and whiffing one apiece. Graham Spraker spun two shutout frames of one-hit ball, striking out three. Kyle Johnston gave up a run in the seventh and Joe Biagini had an unearned run with the placed runner scoring in the top of the eighth but he got the win.
New Hampshire 4 Altoona 3 (10 Innings)
The Fisher Cats recovered from an early 3-0 deficit to knock off the Pirates affiliate. Spencer Horwitz socked a two-run homer and brought in the winning run with a groundball in the 10th. Zac Cook had an RBI knock in the seventh. Steward Berroa had two hits, a walk, a run scored and three stolen bases. Will Robertson singled and walked twice. Orelvis Martinez singled and was hit by a pitch, scoring on Horwitz's homer. Luis De Los Santos singled and walked and Tanner Morris walked twice. Phil Clarke walked but John Aiello was 0-for-4.
Hayden Juenger gave up a two-out solo dinger in the first and a two-out, two-run shot in the second. That was among the four hits he gave up but he matched that with four strikeouts. Geison Urbaez held the fort with three shutout innings of three-hit ball by striking out three. Marcus Reyes put up a pair of zeroes and Hagen Danner did likewise in the eighth. Danner escaped a bases-loaded jam with one out after issuing an intentional walk, striking out a batter. Jake Elliott earned the win with two perfect frames, registering five strikeouts.
Fort Myers 4 Dunedin 3
The D-Jays lost for the eighth time in 11 contests as they fell to the Twins affiliate. Sacrifice flies by Angel Del Rosario and Damiano Palmegiani and a double steal of second and third by Jose Rivas and Del Rosario along with a throwing error by the catcher produced the Dunedin runs. Del Rosario had a hit and a walk and two stolen bases. Rivas and Estiven Machado collected the other base hits. Dasan Brown had a walk and was hit by a pitch. Gabriel Martinez and Victor Mesia both walked.
Jonathan Bernal limited Fort Myers to two hits and a walk over five shutout innings, striking out seven with all six outs in play on the dirt. The 19 year-old Mexican has a K/BB total of 16-2 over 11 innings so far. Kelvin Perez gave up a run in the sixth before Julian Valdez was jolted for three runs in the seventh, blowing the save and taking the loss. Soenni Martinez took over for Valdez in the ninth and put up a zero.
