This is what I noted from yesterday's games.
Buffalo went down 5-2 before rallying for the win. Nick Allgeyer only lasted 2.2 innings so it turned into a bullpen game. Ryan Borucki was the only one of six relievers to give up runs, two in one inning.
The top three in the order had six of the Bisons nine hits. They scored five of the eight runs and drove in four. Forrest Wall, Tyler White and Richard Urena had two hits each. One of White's hits was his twelfth home run.
Forrest Wall has had a decent year, a .265 batting average and a .704 OPS. But he hasn't had a lengthy hot streak that would show his potential. I think he comes off the 40 man this winter.
Sem Robberse made his sixth start for the C's and it was a good one. Six innings, one run allowed on seven hits with four strikeouts. M
The C's were held to six hits, Will Robertson had two of them. Spencer Horwitz singled in the eighth to extend his hit streak to 28 games.
Spencer Horwitz has a 28 game hit streak but is only hitting .294. You would expect it to be higher after Horwitz got off to a hot start hitting .318 in May. But he hit .223 in June and .202 in July. Then he found his swing and he hit .364 in August and is hitting .459 in September. A lot of the variance seems to be BABIP related as his strikeouts haven't varied by that much.
In Dunedin's first game Mac Mueller and Miguel Hiraldo who homered yesterday added another hit each today. I found it interesting how the Jays handled Hunter Gregory who was the Jays eighth round pick this year. He entered the games in the seventh inning and the Yankees went single, single, double, walk. The pitching coach comes out and then on the next pitch the hitter hits a grand slam. Gregory then hits the next batter and you think, five runs in, no outs, pull the pitcher, right? But no, he stays and Harry Ray makes an error. Then Gregory goes ground out, strikeout, pop up to get out of the inning. It took 31 pitches but he got out of it. Just like Montoyo stayed with Pearson on Thursday, Luis Hurtado stayed with Gregory and hopefully he learned something.
Dunedin also won game two and are finishing their season strongly. They have won nine of their last twelve games. In game two Harry Ray put the Jays on the board with a solo home run. Addison Barger added a three run shot in the fourth. Riley Tirotta had two hits. Nathanael Perez pitched really well in game two. Six innings of shutout ball with just one hit allowed. He struck out nine.
Barger has had a rollercoaster season. He has had three months with an OPS over 1000 and two with an OPS around 600. Barger has 17 home runs but he strikes out almost 40% of the time. Unfortunately his strikeout rate hasn't improved much month to month this season.
In the FCL, newly signed free agent Mallex Smith started and went 1-3. Gabriel Moreno did not play. Adriel Sotolongo and Darlin Guzman homered. Each of them had two hits. We won't talk about the pitching.
