It was a tough night on the farm. The FCL Jays were the only winners. The Bisons had to face Chris Sale, no issue for Nash Knight. Luis Quinones pitched well for New Hampshire in a losing cause. Neither the Fisher Cats or the Canadians could find much offense. Dunedin had the offense but not the pitching. The FCL Jays can always be relied on for offense.

Buffalo 2 Worcester 4

New Hampshire 4 Portland 6 - game 1

New Hampshire 0 Portland 1 - game 2

Vancouver 0 Spokane 4

Dunedin 10 Bradenton 13

FCL Tigers 3 FCL Blue Jays 8

This is what I noted from yesterday's games.

The Bisons had to face a rehabbing Chris Sale who threw five innings against them. Nash Knight had two hits off Sale including an RBI double for the only run he allowed. Knight later tripled and scored the second run. He finished the game at 3-4.

Bowden Francis had to face Sale and the strong Sox lineup and was taken deep three times. Marwin Gonzalez and Jeter Downs hit two of the home runs. John Axford pitched another shutdown inning with just an infield hit allowed.

In the first NH game, Casey Lawrence's AA star dimmed as the Sox got to him for five runs in five plus innings. Samad Taylor was 2-4 with his 13th home run, and he scored twice.

In game two, Luis Quinones had his best AA start. He went five innings and gave up just an unearned run on two hits. He only walked two, good for him, and struck out seven. The Fisher Cats had only three hits, all singles.

In contrast to the recent games in the series, this game was scoreless for the first 4.5 innings. Paxton Schultz pitched well, he gave up one big hit, a triple after a walk in the fifth that lead to two runs.

The C's had just four hits. Luis De Los Santos had two, but was caught stealing and committed his ninth error.

Nathanael Perez was hit around for seven runs in five innings. The pitchers who followed were not much better.

Addison Bargar was 2-3 with his 11th home run. He drove in two runs and scored three. Steward Berroa was also 2-4 with three scored and two RBI. He walked twice. Mac Mueller was 4-4 but didn't score a run. He did drive in one. Orelvis is in a slump, he was 0-5.

In the FCL Dahian Santos threw five innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits. He struck out seven. Gabriel Martinez was 2-5. Rainer Nunez, age 20, hit his third home run of the season.

Three Stars

Third Star - Luis Quinones

Paxton Schultz is having a pretty decent year.

Addison Barger--who hasn't changed name--must have been lifting weight last year.
ISO up from .128 to .151 to .256, pretty good for a left bat.

Fantastic interview on C's Plus Baseball with Ryan Gold.

Some stuff I did not fully understand because I kept the sound low (sleeping people) and my memory is not good.

I think the pitcher is not allowed to throw to 1st (covid rule?). Rule is changed back. Guys on 1st were taking huge leads. So Tanner Kirwer and C Eden would be able to steal easily if they got on base.

Pitchers mentioned were Quinones (Q), Kloff, Schultz, Parker Caracchi and Maese.

Bowden Francis is a weird name.

Bowden is normally a last name. Francis is a common French first name, basically the equivalent of Frank.
I kinda wonder if Bowden isn't actually his middle name.

I had forgotten that he came in the Tellez trade.
26 Ks, 5 BB through 21 innings. 9 HR on 18 hits but 5 HR.

"statistical success through the upper minors by relying on plus command of 3 fringe pitches." --FG
Added a slider that FG rates as a 55. Hard slider, slow curve. "power pitcher style with soft stuff, but Francis feel to pitch is excellent and I think he can stick towards the back of a rotation."
Sits 92-94 and tops 95mph, which isn't so soft.
