This is what I noted from yesterday's games.
Anthony Kay had a rough start. Yes, only two of the six runs he conceded were earned, but he didn't help himself. A pair of doubles in the first inning had a run in for Worcester with two outs. Kevin Smith then made an error on a throw, his eighth. That was followed by aother double and a home run. So five runs in, two earned, but four extra base hits in the inning. Kay pitched three more innings and allowed one more run. The Bisons had just three hits in game one, Kevin Smith had two of them, including a double.
Turnabout was fair play in game two. Dilson Herrera hit two solo home runs to put the Bisons up 2-0. A couple of erros gave Buffalo a third run, then the Smith/White connection made it 4-0. Christian Colon added an insurance grand slam in the seventh. Kevin Smith and Tyler White each had two hits. Vinny Capra is still waiting for his first AAA hit.
It was not a good start to the game for Adam Kloffenstein. Two ground ball singles in the first inning were followed by a three run home run. Three more hits, two on the ground, led to another Spokane run in the second. When you are a sinkerball pitcher, sometimes the ground balls get you. But the C's came back with a seven run third. The first six hitters of the inning are reached base and Davis Schneider had two hits in the inning.
The C's scored ten runs off 14 hits with no home runs. Will Robertson had three hits, he has been hot since coming off the IL. Schneider, Phil Clarke, Sebastian Espino and Eric Rivera had two hits each.
Kloffenstein went 4.2 innings, conceding five runs on seven hits, no walks, six K's.
Sem Robberse had an outstanding start, seven inning with just a solo home run across the plate. In total he allowed four hits and picked up five K's.
The Jays had only four hits, juts two through eight innings. One of those hits was a home run from Orelvis Martinez, his 19th. In the ninth Steward Berroa singled, Zach Britton doubled him home for the third run.
