Only two games were played Tuesday. New Hampshire won and Vancouver lost a strange one. Buffalo's game in Syracuse was not played because someone from the Mets affiliate tested positive for COVID-19. Duendin's contest in St. Lucie was scrubbed due to wet field conditions.

New Hampshire 10 Bowie 5

A two-run home run by Nick Podkul in the fourth inning gave New Hampshire the lead for good in their victory over the Orioles affiliate. Jordan Groshans singled in the first two runs and Chavez Young and Brock Lundquist added RBI singles in the first. Samad Taylor swatted his 12th homer of the year in the ninth—a two-run shot— to cap off a two-hit night. Austin Martin had a hit, two walks and was hit by a pitch. Gabriel Moreno had four walks—one with the bases loaded—and Otto Lopez also heard ball four with the bases loaded. Lopez had three walks, a base hit and a stolen base. Lundquist and Podkul also walked a couple of times.

Mike Ellenbest allowed a two-run home run to 2019 first overall pick Adley Rutschman. In total, he was charged with four runs on three hits and two walks with one strikeout in 1-1/3 innings. Sean Rackoski earned the win with an unearned run on a hit and a walk while striking out two over two innings. Marcus Reyes allowed one of two Rackoski runners to score before adding 1-1/3 innings of shutout relief. Will McAffer and Andrew McInvale contributed two scoreless frames apiece.

Eugene 4 Vancouver 3

The Canadians thought they had put together a three-run rally in the ninth to tie the Giants affiliate. Luis De Los Santos homered to bring the C's within two before a two-out double by Rafael Lantigua scored a Ryan Gold walk and a D.J. Neal double. However, the Emeralds appealed that Neal missed third base and the umpire agreed so the Emeralds walked away with the win. You can check Twitter for C's skipper Donnie Murphy blowing a gasket. Eric Rivera plopped a single to centre to put Vancouver on the board in the seventh to score a double by Gold. Rivera also added a stolen base. Lantigua had the only two-hit game while Cameron Eden reached base twice with a single and a walk.

Brian Rapp took the loss in his organizational debut. He gave up two run on six hits and two walks over five innings while ringing up four. Alex Nolan gave up the other two runs—serving up a solo homer—among five hits while striking out two. Cobi Johnson recorded the final four outs in shutout fashion.

Moreno and Taylor are currently first and second in OPS in the AA Northeast Division (1.136 and 1.017). Next best is Adley Rutschman at .964.

Some good numbers on our hitting prospects in AA. SwStr% is usually a better measure of the ability to avoid strikeouts, especially moving up the ladder.

Vinny Capra: 6.9%
Gabriel Moreno: 7.4%
Jordan Groshans: 7.5%
Austin Martin: 7.7%
Otto Lopez: 9.2%
Samad Taylor: 12.8%

Those are extremely strong numbers for Moreno, Groshans and Martin. I was surprised to see Groshans look so good by this metric despite the slow start to his season.

Samad Taylor here is the outlier relative to the guys I've highlighted - but even so he's better than the majority of his teammates. 12.8% is workable at the major league level, but you don't want to be having that much swing and miss in AA. Still, he started slowly, and it will be interesting to see how far he can bring down the swing-and-miss over the season.

Big day for Orelvis in a game for Dunedin today that has been suspended until tomorrow. So far in the game he is 3/3 with two doubles, two runs scored, and four RBI. He also helped turned a double play.

Swing and miss is 2 things, not one.
It's OK to have a high swing and miss rate as long as you tone it done with 2 strikes.
Bichette is the poster child for that.
