It was a quiet night on the farm. Cavan Biggio hit a late home run to earn a win for New Hampshire. Vancouver won in extra innings but everyone else lost. Even New Hampshire lost a game, the other side of a doubleheader. There were few standout performances. Some nights picking the top three stars is tough because there are several stand-outs. On Wednesday the pickings were slimmer.

Buffalo

Buffalo lost 5-4 in 10 innings. The lead went back and forth in this game. Norfolk went ahead 4-3 in the eighth but Rowdy Tellez hit his seventh home run of the season to tie the game. Justin Shafer tried to hold Norfolk at bay in the tenth. He started well by striking out the first two hitters but then conceded a single to put the Bisons behind 5-4. Buffalo were unable to score in the bottom half. Matt Tracey started and pitched six innings with three runs allowed.

Buffalo had eleven hits. Jonathan Davis was 2-4 and is hitting .308 so far in AAA. His brother in law, Anthony Alford, was 0-3 and was ejected after hitting into a double play. Danny Jansen was 0-4. Richard Urena was 2-5 with a double and an RBI. Tellez had two hits. Gio Urshela was 3-5 and is hitting .368 to lead the team. How translatable are those AAA stats anyway?

New Hampshire

New Hampshire resumed a game that had previously been rained out in the third inning with the Fisher Cats trailing 3-0. Nothing much happened until the bottom of the ninth when Juan Kelly hit a pinch hit, two run, home run. That made it a 3-2 game and that is where it ended. Josh DeGraaf pitched five shutout innings of one hit ball. That was his best AA pitching performance of the year.

In game two New Hampshire scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to turn a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 lead. A 1-2-3 top of the seventh left the final at 3-2. In the sixth, a one out walk to Bo Bichette was followed by a two out, RBI double by the hot hitter, Harold Ramirez . Cavan Biggio followed with his twentieth home run of the year to put the Fisher Cats ahead. New Hampshire had just four hits. Starter Tyler Saucedo went six innings and got the win. Travis Bergen picked up his third save.

Dunedin

Dunedin lost 9-3. The Jays did have ten hits but couldn't bunch them. Ivan Castillo, Yeltsin Gudino, Kacy Clemens and Rodrigo Orozco each had two hits. Orozco hit a triple but the other hits were all singles. Kevin Smith went 1-3 with a walk.

Yennsy Diaz was hit around over his five innings. Eight hits led to seven runs. On the plus side he had six strikeouts. Three relievers did little to stem the tide.

Lansing

Lansing lost 4-2. They were losing 4-0 until the bottom of the ninth. They were outhit 13-6. Jesus Navarro, in the ninth spot, had two hits.

Jordan Barrett wasn't great, three runs on seven hits over five innings.

Vancouver

The C's won 2-1 in extra innings. Elio Silva started and pitched five nice innings. The only run he allowed was unearned. In those five innings he gave up three hits, one walk and struck out three. Nick Allgeyer and Cobi Johnson each pitched two good innings to get it to extras.

The C's scored in the seventh, Nick Podkul and Jesus Severino hit back to back doubles. In the tenth, Vancouver scored a run through a bunt and a sac fly from Brandon Polizzi. Marcus Reyes did not give Tri-City the opportunity to do the same, he struck out the side. Vinny Capra and Jesus Severino had a pair of hits each.

Bluefield

Bluefield have an excellent record but the pitchers used on Wednesday don't show much evidence of that. The end of game ERA's of the four pitchers used are 7.36; 14.29; 12.86; and 11.12. The starter Felipe Castaneda was wild, six walks and six K's in five innings. Josh Almonte also had trouble finding the plate. Bluefield lost 7-5. They outhit Peoria but gave up three home runs which was the difference in the game.

For the offense Dominic Abbadessa hit his second home run, a two run shot. He added a single. Alejandro Kirk had two hits and drove in a run. Rafael Lantigua drove in two runs with a first inning single.

GCL Jays

The GCL Jays were rained out.

DSL Jays

The DSL Jays lost 7-1 in a game where they had just four hits. Top DSL prospect Miguel Hiraldo had two of them and scored the only run.

Your Fisher Cat infield for tonight's game:
VGJ 3B, Bo Bichette SS, Santiago Espinal 2B, Cavan Biggio 1B

That'll play.

After a homer and a double today, Groshans is hitting .356/.430/.534 in rookie ball.  Gabriel Moreno had 3 hits including a double.  He has 10 extra base hits and 4 strikeouts in 15 games, and sports a nifty .419/.439/.677 line.  Leonardo Jimenez continues to have a positive W/K at age 17.  All kinds of good news...

That's a bold statement, Mike. :)

I guess Warmoth is back in Dunedin, causing the Espinal promotion.

I suspect they’ll alternate Smith and Warmoth at SS, but I sort of hope that they bite the bullet and let Smith get the majority of reps there and let Warmoth work on his 2B skills. I think that’s his future position anyway.

Pannone is having another strong start at AAA. I'd suspect he'll be given a shot when Happ is traded. And Reese McGuire is 2/2 with a double, getting close to a league-average line after starting the season ice cold. He has a 131 wRC+ since mid-May. If he grows a moustache, he could remind me of Ernie Whitt.

Question: Is there anything Groshans can do to get promoted, or should he remain there for the rest of the year and keep his confidence high going into next season.

I'm normally a rapid promotion guy but I vote the latter.
